A&Q about 350Z
Q:
This poses an interesting question that I expect to hear from some good answers from resident experienced mechanics/tuners/gearheads.
Would it be possible to put carbs on a 350Z? If so, what would be your reasoning and why? I know nothing about carbs other than they are strictly mechanical fuel delivery systems for engines, were popular on older cars, and are praised as being easier to work on.

Yes it could be done. Nothing is impossible. To do what you are asking a person to redesign the whole air/fuel management system. Plus design a spark system. You would have to recast the block and cams to operate a distributor and a slew of other headaches. My question to you is Why???

Carbs over FI?? I'd say don't do it.
A:
cantzmee, come on, carb on a 350Z??? It's idiotic and expensive, as well as almost impossible to to attain. The Z is equiped with computer that reads signals from sensors. Plus the throttle body is not mechanical.
A:
Can you say "vaporlock"? Those 260s were brutal
A:
People don't switch from FI to carbed on any car/engine. There are some cars/motorcycles in which the carbed verisons were slightly more powerful and more reliable because the introduction of FI was a complicated process. After a few years, FI became supreme in every way except they are somewhat easier to work on, but even that is arguable.

PD,
I had a 1974 260Z. I bought it used with 99,000 miles on it in 1983. It vaporlocked every time I drove it more than 45 minutes. You had to wait a half hour for it to cool down and it would run fine again for 45 more minutes.
Very frustrating. The folly of youth. I love my 350Z and fuel injection.

+1 on the last 2 posts. There was thread about 6 months ago when someone gave the specs on a replacement carb, maybe it was just the prior 240 Z carb and how to remove all the smog crapola to make the 260Z run much better than stock. Of course at the time it was illegal to remove the smog crapola. Yes, in stock form I remember all the probs with the 260Z when the new smog requirements kinda screwed up almost all performance cars at the time. When they finally got the mutiport electronic fuel injection perfected, it was a Godsend! I did like the ease of tuning a carb and ease of switching them, but as many have said, it would be pointless to try to do that with a 350Z.
