A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I was wondering do you guys use 91 octaine or 93 for your Zs.I personaly use ultra 93 for mine
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
A:
at the local Chevron station. That'd be 91 octane, which is also the highest recommended by Nissan North America.
A:
Ive never put in anything less than 93, im sure you can run 91 and you shouldnt get any knock...but for the few extra cents why not just run 93.
I mean even if you drive 15k a year, and say 91 is .10 cents less than 93...you're still talking under $100 worth of savings over the year. If you drive a $30k car you can spare $100 bucks IMO and im poor. Around here in NJ every station is 93, 91, and 89(87?). I thought the manual says 93? have i been mistaken all these years? ah well, no harm done

93 octane... used to run 87 for a little while... honestly didn't feel any difference in performance but, for the pervention o knocking problems discussed here... been running 93 for quite some time...
even from 87 to 93 there isn't a HUGE difference in price...
19 X 3.00 = $57
as opposed to:
19 X 2.75 = $52.25
I think i can spare the 4.75 a week...

No harm done.
My hobby is my Z. And I like to keep it clean as much as I can. Without going apeshi over it. But I like going apeshi over it, so give me a break.
I love my shiny red Nissan 350Z.
It runs on the max I can give it. If I had 93, I would most likely use it. Just because I could.
It's nice to have a choice.

wow i even use 91 for my hyunudai accent gt wont use anyting else if its worth it im not sure but it gives me a extra 75 hp..lol
A:
Here in CA the highest octane is 91 at the pump. So that's what I use.

Scotty, the one at 71/North Broadway. My shop is on Indianola so it is right around the corner. Tuesdays and Sundays (weird, Sundays!) I think the one on W Henderson in UA might do it one day a week too. Overall, the best deals are usually in the Hilliard area, where I live, but I don't get to the south part too often, where the best deals are. The Sunoco/Certified on Cemetery Rd is usally a good deal too but they don't do the sale thing.
A:
no matter what gas you are using....gas is so damn expensive

We get a max of 91 in OK, but on my trips to TX you can find 93. The owners manual says to run at least 91. Of course you can go down to your local track or airport and get over 100.
A higher octane will not boost your engine performance, it will simply prevent detonation. So if you mod your engine to increase performance and it causes knocking, then you need a higher octane. But if you just have a CAI and exhuast, 91 should be just fine (meaning - a higher octane will be of no good to you). The FI guys can run into situations where they need a higher octane - but still even then that is only when they are really pushing it.
I like your message, zdoctor. Higher octane is like adding decals to a car for an extra 10hp :)

yeah sorry... it was initially my dad's fault... although not entirely...
we went to fill up my car once or twice, and since he was paying he absolutely refused to put 93 or even 89... and as for telling the difference in fuel, performance wise...there's really no difference... so i just kept using it for a little while, that is until the first discussion of fuel octane came up... and the gear heads here commented that the higher octane fuel runs cleaner and prolongs engine life...
Since then i refuse to put anything under 93 ( i haven't been forced to put 91 yet)
dad still uses 87 in his civic... but hey its a civic... it'll probably run off whiskey if it's proof is high enough...

i always put 93 in mine. there are some gas stations that dont' carry 93 though, in which case i put 91. i basically put the highest available. if they sold 95 i'd probably buy that.
i get my z back tomorrow!@$!@#%@#Q%^@#$ wooooo

I'm in the same boat as some of you... I am in Cali and the best option is 91. I have heard though that there is a gas station somewhere on my way back home that has 104? I think!? 91 has never given me a problem... and I have NEVER gone down to anything else.

Does anybody ever read their owners manual??? It says a minimum of 91 octane is required.
Everyone is totally fine running 91. And common octane knowledge tells you that a higher octane does nothing for performance - it merely prevents knock on highly tuned engines (aka FI, higher compression, etc).
... Oh wait, I just realized that smarta$s remark was from Maya... I doubt he can even read...
