A&Q about 350Z
Q:
just play it safe and do what the owners manual says. different engines have difference break-in recommendations.

It's a good idea, although extremely conservative, to stay out of the last couple thousand RPMS of the RPM band for few hundred miles at the start of engine life. However, the people who car about engines most, racers, usually break their engines in on the track. That being said, it is a good idea to take it easy for at least the first few hundred miles, but the more important thing is to VARY engine RPMS as much as possible, hence the 'cruise control' thing. By staying in the same RPM band you wear the engine in incorrectly.

The really critical thing with any engine break in is to vary your rpm's. I would also limit the rpm's to what ever your book tells you to.

Set your programable shift light for 4,000 RPM. The light will start flashing at 3,500 RPM to let you know the rev limit is coming up. You'll get used to seeing it in your perripheral vision. That's an aluminum alloy block with no cast iron cylinder sleeves. No point in risking the penalty of scuffing cylinder bores. You'll have plenty of opportunities to run it out to 6,500 RPM after the break-in period.

No offense, but who actually drives over 3,000 rpm. Unless your feet is like donald duck size and you have strong muscles that you cannot control, then ok that would explain. I am always driving less than 3000 RPM even if I wanted to speed. ~

omg AirRayz what do you think your driving a little Hundai accent you must be abusing your clutch. Anyway 4k to 5k rpms is correct no more than that...well if your in a track thats a different story then you have to push little bit more.

People ask questions and very seldom acknowledge responses.
Just wondering.

bflo....read the manual. It is like the bible for your Z ownership. People may try to bring false teachings your way. Don't listen to them. Abide by the good book (your Z manual), and you will be blessed for all your life.
