Chevy sells the z06 because they don't have an upmarket brand, and chevy has been selling the corvette long before the nissan->infiniti, honda->acura, toyota->lexus brand conversions occured. Dodge sells for the same reasons. Chrysler is the only plausible alternative, but the viper doesn't remotely fit within the Chrysler line-up like a skyline could with infiniti.
As much as I enjoy the heritage etc. of making it a Nissan, I think it is a mistake from a marketing and sales point of view; especially if it sells anywhere near the 70K figures people have been throwing about. When you pay that much for a car, you do NOT want Nissan service. Why should a 35k G35 get twice the quality service that your 70k skyline gets, from the physical sale of the car to the atmosphere of the service center.
It's a a no win situation I guess.
I'm just pumped up for when I see the next NSX, supra, skyline, FD, all roaming the streets. DAMN will I feel POOR.

i for one didn't know about the "z heritage" until I bought my car. I've learned a lot, but i difinitely didn't buy my car because i have a woody for Zs. I bought it because I appreciate great cars, not just great Z cars.
i don't really think the back end of the GTR looks all that great. i'd be more interested in the 450Z.

Yeah I get mixed up sometimes. I type about 75 wpm and when I switch between s2k, nsx, and z forums constantly my brain is just too slow. It's even worse on forums with spell check, I am practically wreckless.

For the millions of guys a girls who can't afford the GTR, the next best thing is The Z. If you happen to have little ones maybe then you will opt for the G35 with a back seat or a Maxima, just to get a taste of that JDM racing spirit.....you know what I mean.. As far as the service goes well that varies by dealership they are privately owned and operated. And I have had my Z serviced at Infiniti before and they treated it like a new born baby..which it is. So your opinion is what it is, but If I can afford a 70K vehicle, I think I could find a Nissan/Infiniti specialist to take care of my GTR........that is what BMW and Porsche owners do..
