Has this happen to anyone here?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

When did you last gas up?? You might have some bad gas in your tank. What you discribe sounds just like that.. You might want to look at your fuel filter. Do you smell gas in the engine bay after cranking for a while?? I had the exact same thing happen when I had my 1974 260Z. It did turn out to be bad gas.. I had to replace the fuel filter and add several cans of dry gas. I managed to get the car started but had to drain the tank. After 2 tanks of "good" gas, I was fine.
Good Luck..

Thanks for the help. I'll check the battery first. If they are bad, then I will replace it. If it's not the battery then, I'll check the fuel/filter etc.

If your engine turns over as you discribe, then don't waste your time taking out the battery. If your battery was dead, hello...the engine won't turn over ! Sounds like a little more complicated problem to me.

/\/\ 2nd the fuel filter. Sounds like your engine is either starved for good gas or just for gas period.

Before you turn the key all the way to start (leave it in the position before that = run position) do you hear the fuel pump pressurize the fuel system?
It'll shut down after a second or two.
If not, well your pump has seen better days. Other then that; fuel quality or filter. You did not use Philips66, now, did you?

2nd^^ gas cap and fuel related issue...i ALWAYS click the cap cap ON three times... to ensure a tight seal... otherwise i recall someone metioning a sensor problem too... also bad gas... but i think bad gas would just cause you engine to run very abnormally... i've been in a car that had really bad gas from walmart... sounded like it was a diesel engine...only ran horribly...
anyways... be sure to check the fuel filter and fuel pump... turn the key to the ON position you should hear a brief "buzz" of the fuel pump... if not try again and listen a little closer... you might not hear it the first time or so...

Well, I don't think you know either

your starter could be spinning than killing the battery. another thing to check off the big list of possibilities.

I just purchased my Z today, but my previous car had the exact same problem. Lets just say I didn't have access to my keys and had to get one made. The key I had made was the cheap one that just worked on the doorlocks and didn't have the security chip in it for starting the car. I tried it anyways, the car started and was on for about a second before it completely died. I'd check any security system related fuses and your spare key. Just my 2 cents, maybe it'll help.

A lot of you guys seem to forget that this is basically a new car. No 3.5 year old nissan, or any other import besides maybe arguably from korea, is going to have a fuel filter or fuel pump issue this soon.
Maybe some odd thing with the gas cap, not familiar enough with the 350z enough to say otherwise. Roommate has one, but he's pretty dumb and would have probably already experienced this. Bad gas does not usually cause these symptoms, but I suppose it is possible.
Sincerely doubt your alternator by the symptoms you gave.
BTW, just because the headlights, radio goes full blast, etc. works, does not mean the battery is fine. That just means it is not completely dead. Go loosen your battery cables. All of the radio, etc. will still work fine as long as there is some contact. However, it will not produce enough current to actually start the car.
However, if your car actually starts then immediately dies, it is probably not your battery, nor any other easily diagnosed problem besides something goofy like a gas cap sensor issue.
