A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I'm picking up my new '06 Z on Friday. It has potenza's. With all I have read here, should I purchase the tire warranty the dealer is offering?
A:
what does the warranty cover?
if it were me i wouldn't get it. you're better off just wearing out those tires and getting better ones.

Gang,
Now this dealer has a new twist on scaming some extra bucks for his pocket book. A tire warranty on the "Z's"<LOL>. The insurance company probably won't pay and blame the poor tire wear on the alignment. Then Nissan won't pay since they claim there isn't any problem with the cars front end. Either way you don't get any new tires and your out the money you put up front for the insurance.

just stuck with it i guess... if you're kinda tight with money...save now for tires later... it's coming... and you'll be glad you have that money :-)

this must be tough for the new car buyer. nissan will continue to replace my 2003 tires since there was an admitted problem and no fix for this year. they have bought all my tires (fronts) since i bought the car 46,000 miles ago.
A:
thanks all. the dealer says the warranty covers any and all problems- even if its my fault- for 40, 000 miles. they want to charge me $400
A:
"Any and all problems" - if the contract actually says that - is a pretty broad (and good for you) obligation.
... and if there's not the usual "owner shares in cost to repair replace after ___ % of treadwear" garbage.
Sounds too good to be true.
A:
400 bones is a lot. that's most of the way towards new tires anyway.

I have an 2003 350Z (Vin no. 391, so it was an pre order Z) with 40,000 miles and I've only gone through 2 sets of tires, so don't believe all 350Z's have this tire issue. No matter what some very disgruntled owners may say...it's not the same thing on all of them. I just wanted to give you my 2 cents since it's clearly the ones who did have a messed up car bitch way more about it than people who have had a good experience. I consider 20,000 miles on this soft compount stock Potenza's ok and livable with. Anyway enjoy the purchase with or without the tire warranty!

Go to America's Tire Co. or Discount Tire Co. and get the road hazard warranty. Maybe $100-$150. This covers the tires for their entire life. If tghe tires still have any tread above the wear bar and you smash them into a curb or mess them up except vandalism, you get a new tire of the same type. You only pay for the balance. I just bought some rims and BFG Gforc 19"'s and my girlfriend ruined the RRear in abou 10 days. Had I bought them from a ATC or DTC and paid for the road hazard I would of had the tire replaced for free. I got them from a small tuner shop and didn't have time to get the warranty and have to spend over $250 for a new tire. Poor tire only lasted 10 days, the road hazard is good as long as the tire has tread above the wear bars. 100% replacement, and not prorated.
