A:

it's a love it or love it. if you don't like it i don't think it will grow on you, but i guess it could.

leaning towards makeing another z31tt. just hard to stay on the mild side, i need something i can keep legal.
A:

are you saying a z33 is not legal? i guess that would depend on what state you live in...
i think the APS TT kit is only illegal in CA but i'm not the Guru... if not i believe the JWT kit is... but i hear its about as reliable as the other kits on the market... research More Power's posts comparing the kits... you will be made knowledgable of FI kits for sure...

nope, saying i got over 2,500 in fines the last time i had my z31 on the street. i know it was my fault for speeding...... but can you blame me. the interstate in texas was soooo smooth and straight.....

I owned a couple of Z31 Turbos in the past and like the styling and the fact that it is so cheap to modify.
I realized that I was having a hard time finding plastic replacement parts for the car. So, I decided even though the car was in perfect condition that I would sell it for an updated model.
Well, I'll have to say during break-in I was a little disappointed with the 350Z. I thought it was slower than my boosted Z31. I ran 10psi boost in her. That boost kicking in so sharply really distorts your perception. Sharp HP curve vs smooth raw power and torque.
However, after break-in I realized all the fun comes after 3500rpm. NISSAN wants you stay under 4K rpms for the first 1200 miles.
The other thing I found out is that this car doesn't squat as much as the old Z31 so that was a sensation that made me think the Z31 was faster.
Even in the firm mode the Z31 sqats more than the Z33.
Yeah, like others say you have to get used to the blind spots. But, that take a week. The seat were very uncomfortable at first but, they broke in after a few thousand miles and now fit like a glove for me. They are very supportive. I still want some race seats but, the stock ones are pretty good now. I have cloth, I am prety sure the leather will do the same thing.
It's all about stiff foam underneath that needs to get crushed a few times before it fits properly imo.
Now my 300ZXT would do a quarter mile in 14.8 the new car will do the quarter with a couple minor mods in 13.4. It handles as good as the Z31 in firm mode without the bouncing around.
I still miss my T-tops out of my old Z. However, there is so much more to like about the 350Z it's easy to let go.

There is something to fixing up a old car that I love. I mean you are really connected. Then there is something about fixing up an old car that make you mad when you can't find the parts that are wearing out.
That was my biggest concern with the Z31. Oh yeah, I could find the parts and have them shipped to me. Unfortunately, the Z was my daily driver and I got tried of driving the Sable around waiting for parts to show up to fix my Z. I was also starting to get upset with the ability to get new parts for the car. A lot of them were starting to be discontinued after 20 years.
Do you blame them?
So, it was time for the latest and greatest Z for me.
I mean look at it. the 300ZXT cost $26K in 1984 and you could buy a 2004 for $26K. That's reverse economics to me. ;)

your Z31 was not in perfect condition. After 20 years that suspension bounce you felt meant alot of your suspension components were way worn out. Also, from the factory the Z31 was tuned wayyy to soft anyway. For less than 3 grand I have replaced/upgraded pretty much every suspension component on the car and I bet it handles just as good if not better than a 350Z. All I really need now is a good sound system, a little boost controller, and I have 90% of the Z33 for 30% of the cost.
Now thats what I call value :-P The Z33 is a awsome car (except for that OOGLY rear end), and if you dont mind a car payment, need a warrenty on your car so you dont have to work on it, then the the way to go. If you are on a budget and/or enjoy working on your car, (or just plain stubborn like Z31 owners can be, hehe) then there is pretty much nothing you cant make the Z31 do that the Z33 can also.

Dude, there is no question about it. The 350Z does have quite a bulbous ass. But, its still a nice looking car. The ass is growing on me, especially when I see the ass on a G35 coupe up close... comparatively the 350Z's butt is much more aesthetic.

I agree with you more sportdriverGT. I just was running out of places to find parts and my weekend were being wasted at the junkyards not finding anything good. In the stiff mode ..... it had new bushing and rebuilt shocks and the Z31 was stiff as heck. That the way it was made to hold the road. Not a bad thing, just different back then. I love the adjustable shock system .... and mine worked on all three of the turbo Z31's I had. They all were rebuilt and worth it to me. It would still squat a little under acceleration in stiff mode and ride like a cadilliac in soft mode.
The Z33 doesn't squat so much and it's still indenpendant suspension.
I can't disagree with you that the Z31 didn't handle as good as the Z33 stock but, after a month of driving the 350Z it was very clear how much faster it was over a 10psi boosted Z31 to me.
I think I would still like to build another 240Z or Z31. I just don't have the room.
I do like to fix up the Z33 and work on my own car so that still continues.
TT someday I hope.
Enjoy the ride !!!
I'm liking the 350Z arse end:
