Had the tranny replaced. Got about 22 to 23 mpg in the city before. Now we are at 17mpg!!
No engine check light. Somebody experienced the same.
Also need to have the fuel line done. I am worried now.
If this crap keeps coming up we'll be looking for something else. I am getting tired of it.

Transmission isn't going to effect gas mileage. Fuel line done? Either your fuel line is leaking or it isn't, not sure if you are thinking of something else. Nothing should be wrong with a fuel line on any car made in 2003, even if it has 150,000 miles.
Gas mileage on a car as new as yours has more to do with driving habits, weather, and your tire pressure than anything else.

is this a manual transmission? If so, everybody else is correct and it can't have any impact on your mileage.
if its an automatic, there could be a problem with your torque converter or your transmission is slipping and that will negatively affect mileage.
i would probably suspect there is an exhaust leak where they had to disconnect the exhaust system to pull the tranny. An exhaust leak can cause bad O2 sensor readings and bad mileage. or maybe the engine needs a tune up... how many miles are on the car?

shouldn't have a problem from the tranny... mine was replaced just a short while ago and my MPG is better... maybe cause i've been taking it lightly on the new tranny...but my best guess is to follow what phx says...

Okay, here we are; yes, dkmura I do work believe it or not.
Other then that it's a 6MT, preorder 03. Input shaft bearing rattle.
Exhaust gasket, yes , I'll have to check that. I was actually thinking of something being disconnected down there.
Driving habits or distances did not change. Seems like that maybe idle is a little rougher too.
Still have to get that fuel line recall done though.
