Manual Transmission Question

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

My 2006 350Z has been trouble free for the past six months, but I am starting to get concerned about the transmission. I have heard some people say that the feel of the shifter improves over time, but mine has gotten worse. There are some days when I can't get the car in 1st or 2nd gear without applying a great deal of effort. I am going to let the dealer look at it, but is there anything that I can do between now and then? Will a short throw shifter improve the feel? I am open for suggestions.
A:

Well...your car has a short throw shifter...so I doubt that will improve the feel.
I have not heard of this problem. How many miles does the car have? Did you change your transmission fluid at all? Once you get it into gear, is it smooth or "rattles"?
I don't know what to tell you. Good luck with the dealer. Hopefully it will be an easy fix and not a recurring problem...

I flipped through the FSM on this - there are several things that can cause hard shifting, and a short shifter will not really help.
Check your fluid level and see whats up before you take it in.
A:

Mesh,
A manual shifter should work like fine wine; it should get better with age. It may be something as simple as fasteners loosening up and need to be retightened, but your car is under warranty. See your dealer before something more serious occurs.

If it's really cold when you first start the car, it's normal for it to be hard to shift or even slightly grind in 1st and 2nd until the transmission is warmed up. Just a thought -

I had a difficult time for the first 3,000 or so.. but I just let the car tell me when it felt like being shifted and rode in neutral here and there if I had to take turns a little slower than the gears wanted to allow me to do.
Now Im at 5,900 and the shifter is working smooth, great and neveer argues anymore.
Just be good to your precious. lol. Like a woman. Push at it wrong and itll push back.

I never knew that was a problem as mine does that, is there a TSB out for that?
