A&Q about 350Z
Q:
i know the best thing to do is order online. the blizzaks are available thru tire rack. for those of us who cant install them ourselves though, a retail establishment awaits. i went to a firestone dealer today (philly area), and was told that the back tires are in stock, (warehouse is in the allentown area), but that they dont expect to be getting in any front tires at all this year. this was confirmed by a phone call to an independent dealer. bottom line is i ordered dunlop's (which according to tire rack are higher rated than the blizzaks). $100 down and they'll hold them for me until i need them in mid november. $966 out the door including tax. figure i got a good deal on a tire rated higher than blizzaks. what do you guys think?
A:
you can buy any tire on tirerack and have them shipped to a local shop for install. tire shops sign up with tirerack for this very purpose. you can even see customer reviews of the shops.
i did this recently with a couple rear tires for my 240z.

i talked to my regular mechanic and he told me i could ship them to him, but because of space he would have to put them on my car right away. so i didnt want to get shutout without winter tires (have no choice but to drive my z in the winter)

I dont care for Firestone at all. In fact, they suck. Take your tires and your car anywhere else.

price sounds a bit high, but the dunlops are supposed to be great

Gang,
Had a set of OEM Dunlops on a new 01 Pathfinder, they sucked. Car wouldn't stop on damp or wet payment and would set off the antilock brakes system. Dealer put Michelins on and the problem went away. Wife "wouldn't have a set of Dunlops sideways".

these are winter tires...dunlop winter sport M3(which is what im assuming they are) are one of the top winter tires for the Z. all the first hand reviews ive read say theyre great. Comparing SUV non-winter tires to performance winters is like apples and oranges. every tire a company mnaufacturers isnt gonna be great

I was just at Firestone the other day and they said they would have to order the Blizzaks and they would be coming from California. Are you saying that all front Blizzaks are out of stock or just the ones in your area of Philly?

I was asking if all Firestone stations were unable to get any Blizzaks in for the rest of the year. I only wanted to put Blizzaks on the rear but they would only put the Blizzaks on if I had all four replaced. They said they would have to ship them in, which would mean they must have the front tires in stock. It really doesn't matter because the tires about $40 cheaper per tire through tirerack. I'll use tirerack to order the tires and have Firestone put them on.

I bought the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s for my Z last year from Tirerack. I paid $833 for the set. My buddy with an BMW M3 uses the Blizaks. After driving both cars, we both agreed that the Dunlops were the better tire.
A:
dunlops are rated higher than the blizzaks in every category, according to tire rack. i was told the front blizzaks are out of stock in the philly area, with no time projection for when (and if) they would come in.
