Man, sometimes dealers make this worse, kinda funny too. But, its true!

when you hit the fob or button does it click and open a bit but when you pull it it wont open?
If so theres a $.04 fix for this. when you open the hatch theres 1 little black rubber spring type thing on each side of the hatch. If you pull these off take em apart and stick 2 or 3 pennies in it(then close it back up and re-install) it should take care of the problem.
I know my directions sound vague but if you need more clarification I can dig up some pics and an exact install guide. If you still have warranty though it would be covered by the dealer but then you have to go through the hassle of taking it there and all.

I added 2 pennies to each rear hatch spring two years ago.
They have opened first time every time over 99% of the time.

i went to the dealer today. there was a TSB for the items drivenZ mentioned. the dealer replaced both with the new part and fix resolved. thanks for all the insight.

I had the rear hatch release problem. Turned out to be a missing release spring on one side. Dealer put in 2 new spring releases and solved the problem. No Charge. Great Service by Nissan Dealer Service Dept
