A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I feel stupid to have to ask, I have an '03 Track Model with Brembos, I need new brake pads. Any recommendations? I was unaware, and I am confused by the options.
As always guys, thanks for the helpful advice. I ended buyng Hawk HPS pads from - http://www.car-stuff.com/ - They were the cheapest I could find on the net. A few people that I know who auto cross use them.

The Hawk HPs are great.
75% less brake dust. The dust is also gray instead of black.

Shop around...you be surprise the big difference is prices on the same type of pad. I bought mine at Stillen...."I said are you guys having a group buy"? His answer was yes...it started yesterday. (????)....Bottom line I save almost $30.00.
My SB ZR still feels like HEAVEN....what a wild ride!

There's a difference.

I recommend Akebono or Axxis pads if you want good high performance pads. Ceramic pads are the best. Lots of people on here like the Hawk pads too.
Stay away from metallic pads, they produce more dust and the dust is corrosive, meaning it will cause your wheel hubs to rust and your shiny rims will lose their luster with time. They also tend to wear the rotors faster. Also stay away from organic pads. They stop pretty good and don't produce much dust but they smell horrible after a short drive at high speeds, and can develop "hotspots" more easily.
Akebono ceramics are my favorite pads. They stop very very well, resist brake fade the best, and don't produce much dust. Huge difference over OEM pads.
If you get Axxis pads, get the Axxis ULT ceramic pads, those are the best. Axxis XBG pads are very good as well, but they do have a little metal in the friction material. They don't produce much dust but keep your rims clean on a regular basis, and every now and then remove the wheel and get the brake dust from building up on the wheel hub.

The dealer steered me to Raybestos ceramic pads. (Over)charged a total of $197 + for just the front pair of pads installed, but he had been good to me in the past, so I just did it.
Did he overcharge me much? Was Raybestos a good choice? (My main objective was to relieve the brake dust problem.)
Now if your answers to the above is good, I want to do some more work with him; if not I need to search price-wise.
Thanks for any help now, and for what y'all have given me in the past.

Well i did mine myself, took 45 minutes, very easy yo do and paid 70 plus shipping for the pads.....so to me that over charged but maybe a good price to u if its worth it. As far as the brand you went with, dont know. Never heard anyone on here say they use them...so keep us updated, see how they work out.

vaguely heard of raybestos although i havent really heard of anyone using them on the Z, but i think they're alright. I dont know if you got ripped off but my hawks were like 60-70 bucks for the fronts and install at a shop should be super quick, its a really easy process.
Take off the wheel, remove one bolt, pull out old pad, insert new pad(using brake grease where necessary), compress piston with c-clamp, put bolt back on, put wheel back on. So you be the judge i guess.
+1 on what daddy said, i did my hawks myself too and it's really easy...after you do one wheel the rest are a cinch

I use Hawk HP's on all my cars that I road race. Brake dust seems pretty low. Get minimal brake noise under normal driving. But, very satisfied with wear and stopping ability. I keep an extra set of Hawk's in all of my track cars.
A:
I also use Hawks, very nice! Stop on the dime, with slotted rotors. -)

Cobalt Friction's Sport GT compound are my favorites for the Brembos. Good dual purpose street-track pad. Easy on rotors and affordable.
