$40,000. Wow.. maybe just buy a GTR. :)

The integrity of this story is iffy the only guy I recall able to turn ON and OFF the supercharger for a dramatic effect was MadMax. The article says the supercharger will have an on/off switch hmm...
A:
It is possible, the SC just needs a clutch and it would be possible to turn it on or off.

Gang,
That would be so cool if the SC was hooked up like the A/C. It would be injected until you floored it and then through a micro switch under the go pedal the SC would come on. That would be bitchen.

back in the '30s mercedes made a straight 8 that had a supercharger that only came on at full throttle. and yes it was clutch driven. so if they did it way back when it is completly possible for nissan to do it as well. i just think it is highly unlikely

That same setup (clutched supercharger) has been used on a lot of newer Mercedes', plus the supercharged Toyota Mr2 from the late 80's. Knew a guy who swapped a JDM supercharged motor into his 89 mr2 a couple years back. He said it made around 220 hp, though after a ride in it I'd say he was being a bit generous. Even still, the idea is completeley feasible, and you can really feel when the supercharger comes on at wide open throttle. Never seen it connected to an on/off switch, and I think the reason why is that, ultimately, the engineers figured that rather than cluttering up the dash with another switch, they would just rely on the driver's right foot to make that decision. Obviously, when you get on the gas, you want more power.
I suppose a dashboard switch would be cool in the "look at how I can turn the supercharger on or off" sense, but ultimately I think the Mercedes and Toyota engineers had the right idea, as far as efficiency of design is concerned. Of course, Benzes and the supercharged Mr2's had somewhat of a limited audience on account of their prices and, in the case of the Toyota, practicality limitations, so I'm going to agree with S130zx on this one - Highly unlikely.
P.S. - how do you like that Opel? There's an old one been sitting outside of a local storage yard for the last four years or so, and every time I drive by it I wonder to myself, "Who could that belong to, and what might they want for it?" I always loved the compactness and style of those cars.
