A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Ok so it looks like im finally going to sell my 04 GTP and should pocket about 3k on the deal. Will likely put half in the bank and was considering upgrading the sound in the Z. First off one of my speakers is already blown, which does not surprise me considering how freaking cheap factory speakers are. So the stuff below is what I am looking to get, the only reservations I have is the Damn Installation and labor fees that they are going to charge me. I would basically like to know if I am getting ripped off, or is this about right for what im getting + installation. I already did a price check at on line retailers and Ebay for the actual stereo equiptment and they are comparable if not cheaper than ebay once you count shipping.
(To Push the front and rears)
Alpine MRPF250 V-Power 4/3/2 Channel Amp (4x50) $185.00
labor---------------------------------------------------------------$ 75.00
shop supplies-----------------------------------------------------$ 3.75
(To push the Sub)
Alpine MRPM450 V-Power Digital Mono Amp 400W------$185.00
labor------------------------------------------------------------------$75.00
shop supplies--------------------------------------------------------$3.75
Alpine SWE1042 Type E Sub 10" 4 Ohm 750W------------$64.99
labor-----------------------------------------------estimated $40.00
Shop supplies---------------------------------------------------------$3.75
Alpine SPS170A Type S 6.5" Components---------------------$180.00
labor----------------------------------------------------------------------$75.00
shop supplies-----------------------------------------------------------$3.75
Alpine SPS170A Type S 6.5" Coax Speakers (rear)-----------$99.95
labor-----------------------------------------------------------------------$35.00
shop supplies------------------------------------------------------------$1.75
PER SVEN4 ?? 4CH wired input to RCA----------------------------$40.00
labor-----------------------------------------------------------------------$40.00
shop supplies-------------------------------------------------------------$2.00
DBL CK4DNS 4 Guage Blue Comp. DLX Kit-----------------------$60.00
DBL CL6 6' FCA COMP. SERIES ------------------------------------$3.00
Just for what I have listed it comes out to be-------------------- $1,234.77 tax included.
Also they said they would build some amplifier boards for the amps to sit on that will fit between the rear strut bar and the rear spearker boards since they dont think that the amps will fit under the seats, which is a must considering I need my trunk space this will add about another $80.00. PLUS there were a couple other things that he forgot to add to the estimate, so basically im looking at just under $1,500 for this set up. This is also with me keeping the stock head unit. I know the head unit in not all that great but from past experiences i have found that just upgrading to aftermarket speakers makes a huge difference, besides replacing that later will be next on the agenda. I know that you get what you pay for when it comes to stereo installations and all but damn I was hoping I could get something like this for right around 1k.
What do you guys think $1,500 sound about right or should I look elsewhere.
Thanks

i can tell you that installing car audio stuff is not hard at all,
i'm not too mechanically/electronically inclined but i did it, its not hard at all, just time consuming,
the hardest part is running the wires, that takes the most time
as for the rear speakers, forget it, you won't need it, just put that money towards better components up front, coaxials in the rear will just mess up your sound stage
if you are going to be spenidng that much coin, get a good setup and don't mess around with rear fill
mb quarts have great components, far better than alpine i can tell u that, as for alpine amps, there are others out that with the same quality but cheaper price
alpine great for HU, but i'm not sure about this year's, if you can find a 7998 get it, dope deck
alpine subwoofers are nice, they are small don't eat tons of power and only need a small amount of space to hit.
all in all shop for mb quartz components, amps-stay away from pyle, pyramid, kenwood, sony etc

Well thanks for the input guys. It seems like I cant win around here, either I find a place that has great prices on equipment but rapes you on installation like above, or cheap install but robs you blind on the components. Think I will just buy stuff a little bit at a time picking up stuff here and there on ebay, then either have a shop or me and a buddy that I trust install the stuff. Think what I will end up doing first is getting front components, a sub and amp. I think that will boost the sound up pretty good and give me some decent bass. Then save up for a good head unit. Thanks for all the input guys, ill let you know of any future updates.

lottness, if you want it done with no worries, spend the money!
Better safe than sorry! See if your dealership does that line of work, mine did, and they did custom box and complete new system.

I think you should definitely do this yourself. The next thing I would recommend is to go to ebay to get new speakers. Infinity, JBL, Boston Accoustics, MB Quart. . . all good brands.
You can get amps on ebay too for much cheaper than that shop is charging. With few exceptions, an amp is an amp. I don't care what any brand-loyal audiophile tries to say, a Kenwood amp or Pioneer amp will perform just as well as an MTX or Rockford Fosgate amp, for about $100 less.
I got my ENTIRE system NEW off of ebay. All infinity kappa perfect speakers. 6.5" components in the front, 4x6 component plate inthe rear. (keep in mind I have a z32). MonsterCable zero-noise shielded RCA cables. Eclipse 5 channel amp.
Total Cost: $450-500
Plus power/ground/speaker wire from local audio shop totaling probably 30 bucks.
Installation is easy in any car, all wires run down door sill rails, amp mounted under passenger seat. All wires hidden. If it got broken into, they'd never know it had anything in it stereo-wise.
Keep in mind I don't have a sub, but that would be 100-150 or so, and a box would be cheap. Since you have the sub compartment, you don't even need to worry about the box.
