NEW TRANNY!!!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I just got my Z back from the dealership today! with a brand new tranny installed...WOO HOO!... i gotta say it shifts like a million bucks... however a dollars feels when it shifts... lol... maybe if i said "when it shifts into your pocket..."
Anyways, i read the report made out by the Nissan tech... and it reported that when he drained the oil... he found metal shavings... any idea what the cause was? i know i didn't grind but maybe once a month, or that notchyness that is felt sometimes when shifting to 3rd...
but now every gear slides in like...umm...well... uh...really good... lol...
only a few beefs... 1) there seems to be some sort of cloth material (from what i can tell cotton stuffing) under my shift boot... WTF is that? wasn't there before...
2) clutch feels weaker than before, i know i was thinking about swapping clutches but quite honestly i didn't have the money at the time... so it was kinda outta the question...

Well, I don't think you know either

you must be hard on your transmission to have it replaced in 3 years :O

before commenting. Try the search function. Transmission difficulties go back a couple of years.

I've been commenting on every trip to the dealer about balky shifting. "It feels normal to us." I even had the transmission fluid changed and it's worse than it was.
What did you say to convince the dealer? Or did you have a knowledgable service department?
A:

How loud was the rattling. I am asking because I hear a slight rattle or chatter in my 05 when I let the clutch pedal out. I hear that a slight sort of Whooshing noise is normal...how loud was yours?

^^^ sounds like transmission bearing noise. Before you think your tranny is dying, try replacing the fluid with some high quality synthetic lubricant (Redline MT, Royal Purple Synthetic gearoil, etc) and see if that doesn't solve the problem.
Also make sure the fluid is the proper viscosity. If you're in colder weather you may want 75W-90, in warmer climates like Florida straight up 90weight or 80W-90 will probably work well.

phx... this site should pay you by the hour.
A:

staticivi03, you still have not told me, or others, how you got the dealer to replace that tranny after the warrenty was up.
We have the same problem and I don't want to get stuck with a really big bill here.
If they don't pay then I'll have to repair myself, arghhh.

i have a seperately purchased 60 month/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warrenty... sorry ;-)
the noise was quite noticable... especially when you are parked up against a wall... like a drive-thru... and the sound will echo off the wall...
but it is very noticable and just like phx said... it really sounds like a bearing... but is it the clutch does spin or does not spin when you are NOT on the pedal... i believe it doesn't spin until you press the pedal then the clutch is released and spinning on the throw out bearing right?
so thatwould leave me to believe that it has to be some other bearing aside from the throw out bearing...
i have a basic knowledge of how the stuff works and what it does but not in great detail the specifics...
