CLUTCH noise @ Idle.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Question:
When any of your cars (manual trans) are OUT of gear, and you completely remove your foot from the clutch, does it sound like the clutch is engaging slightly? It only makes a very subtle noise, and no movement, and I have not worried about it too much, till lately.
Is it worse at an uphill angle? Is it a big cause for concern?
As you might guess, my '05 ZR has had this "problem" since day one, and now has 6300 miles on it and I think I am going to take it in to service.

YES !!!!!!!!!!
mine does the same...
my has only 47k miles and it does that...
I went to a nissan dealer and testdrove one of their 350Z ...
and it didnt make any noise on IDLE when it was on NEUTRAL..
Mine sounds like that when i put it on NEUTRAL and remove my foot from the gas ...
a REALLY REALLY good mechanic told me it tells the previous woner beat on it.. but it wont harm the car... he said depending on the noise, it could also be the pilot bushing...
but since to replace that you need to separate the Trasmission from the motor u might as well do the whole clutch on the same labor

The noise is two fold. First, the car has a dual mass flywheel. That is, the flywheel has an inner section that moves/rotates to soften the engagement so you do not blow the gears or the rear end. Note, the car has a composite driveshaft to keep from blowing the rear end too. Second, the car basically pumps the fluid through the main shaft from the rear to the front of the transmission. While at idle and not moving there is nothing pumping so the input shaft has no lubrication on startup. Only what has been sticking to the bearings while the car set. So, get the car moving or risk spalling of the input shaft bearing and race. I had a new transmission installed for this reason. Mine was a demo and it was started and set while running time and time again. The input shaft bearing was running dry and it destroyed it. You could replace the front bearing and start over. But, if yours is out of warranty or if the dealer will continue to honor the warranty the fix is to go with synthetic lubricant. That is, if the bearing is not already gone. Mine was so bad you could not order at the drivethru without turning the car off...

well... similar problem for me too...
my rear axle clicks... and recently, there is a weird grinding and other sound coming from the tranny...
i hope these are covered under powertrain warranty... cuz my btb warranty expired...

Had the clicking, had the dealer perform the TSB on both side, clicking gone.
