A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hey does anyone know where I can purchase a used but mint condition navi for my 06 Z enthusiast? I want the OEM system but if its a good aftermarket one I might consider it...thanks

A factory Z navigation can not be added.
There are wiring harnesses installed at the factory unavailabe after market.
I have heard the Pioneer systems are pretty damn good!

There is a complete nav system for the Z on Ebay right now - I ran into it a day ago....look under 350Z parts/accessories...
They want 2000 for it I think. ouch.
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.

There are several aftermarket portable navi systems that will fit in the storage box in the center-top of the dash where the OEM navi would have resided. Lowrance iWAY 350C, Garmin StreetPilot (the smaller versions), and TomTom all make very nice portable navigation units that should fit the storage slot. I'm only familiar with using the Lowrance iWAY 350C, but it fits perfectly, and very snuggly in the compartment. It runs on two lithium ion batteries so you don't need a cable to run it, just to charge it when it runs low (about every 8 to 12 hours of use). And it fits well enough that you can still close the storage lid to hide it when you are parked. Of course to use it, you have to keep that storage lid open, but I don't mind since it provides a sunshield for the unit. It won't look as custom as an in-dash unit, but it's portable so you can use it in any vehicle you own, and it's small enough to stay out of the way. A lot of other benefits to it to, such as playing MP3s, viewing pictures, built-in hard drive that stores mapping data, etc. The Garmin and TomTom units should work well too, and if you get one that is close to the same size as the iWAY 350C, it should fit (as long as it's no taller because it is snug in there).
Plus the portable aftermarket units will only run you about $500 (maybe less).
Good luck whichever direction you choose.

if what you're looking for is the factory nav system it will be pricey, but like eric said, you can get a good nav system for a few hundred dollars. it just won't fit the car the way the factory one does.
plus with the factory nav they have the door to the console automated. when you turn on the engine the door comes up. when you shut it off it goes down. you can also push the button to make it go down.

How about a map ? They are available at most service stations for $1.25 and you don't have to mess around with any wiring harness.

does the map talk you step by step how to get to your destination? does it tell you how many tenths of a mile farther until you need to turn? does it offer to avoid toll roads? if you ask it where the closest gas station is will it tell you? how about the closest hospital or restaurant? does it have a digital readout that shows how many miles you are from your destination and approximately how long it will take to get there? does it count down the miles and the time for you? does it sound like a hot woman? does it also keep track of maintenance on your vehicle?
maps, psh
once you go navvy you'll never go back.
A:
lol, actually maps DO have hospitals marked. Toll roads are marked as well. . .the scale lets you know how far away you are, oh and STREET SIGNS let you know when to turn. NAV systems are for the guys who really do get lost :)

This is besides the point, but another wonderful feature of nav systems are that they have searchables POIs (point-of-interests), and they usually have the phone number of the POIs so you can call ahead. Find the nearest restaurant and call ahead to make sure they are open (or make reservations). Find the nearest hotel and call ahead to see if they have vacancies. Your car breaks down and you can find the nearest car mechanic (or car parts shop) and call them to come pick you up, deliver a part, or make sure that they are even open.
But a map is always good to have. You never know when your electronics will decide to break.
