why do alot of people hate the mustang?
the mustang is a realy good car
i think the fox body is good competion alot better then the
shity honda and toyota ricers.
its a real good feeling when you (82zx)
and your buddy (86gt)
at the track and you win close race but it was fun
and it isnt bad when all get just about the same upgrades

Well, it's kinda like the Army-Navy game. Or USC-UCLA. Gotta have a cross-town rival to hate and for the Z — for reasons unknown — the Mustang is it. I personally like the older Mustangs, detest the ones from about '75 through 2004, and LOVE the new ones.

It's because they are a muscle car, not really a sports car. They were designed for cruising up and down the strip and going fast in a straight line, and Ford recognizes this (live axle, big engine, etc). They also had a long period where they looked (IMO) like cheap garbage, like the Camaro did. That is not to say they are slow, because some of them are not.
The 350z is a sports car, not a muscle car.

When I think of a sports car or Muscle car I do not think of a Mustang, Mustang isnt a sports car or a Muscle car. But when I think of a Pony car I do think of a Mustang. And when I think of an overrated car that does not appeal to me I think of a Mustang.

no, just marketing people selling the old "legends" with retro looking crap. i drove the new gt twice now and i can honestly say that it's a boring car. it does things very well, just in a plastic, soul-less way.
if you sit in the car with the engine off you can almost hear the voices of ford marketing people discussing fabrics and trim logo's.

if you don't get the GT you're only getting 210hp. that's not muscle.
people know it as a fast car though, which is why so many people buy it (not to mention it's inexpensive).
i totally agree with JR though. I like the looks of the old ones and the new ones, but everything in between was FUGLY.

If I remember correctly, the 64 1/2 Mustang that came out had a mildly powered inline six. It was a bit of a family car and was sort of meant that way. They I guess buyers saw the potential in it and started powering them up.
I think that a lot of people hate the Mustang because of what ZX said. Everyone and their mother owns one. And to add to what he said, most of those owners (particularly the ones that own GTs (V8 powered), think that theirs is the fastest and have a huge chip on their shoulders. Kinda like the MKIV Supra owners.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

because years ago (76-83) when i was driving a 10 sec. dodge challenger around i had about a dozen mustang owners who had to race me a few i told to go race a few other fast cars and if they beat them come back and id race them . the mustang owners always wanted to pick a fight then. you see apparently where i lved at the time, cheyenne wy. denver colo., all the stang owners were tough guys. so being a lover not a fighter (hehe), i would give in and race them. i probably ran against pre 74 cobras, 6 mach ones, and a doz. various built mustangs. i beat everyone of them by at least 4 car lengths and often more. one in particular pissed me off bad mouthing my car and me in front of his girl to be a big guy. he had a 71 ( i beleive) mach one with a rller cam and lots of goodies. i came off the line with the front wheels 3 ft in the air raised them about a ft hitting 2nd and beat him by 1/2 the 1/4 mile. he claimed i cheated and i told him to go ____ himself.
you see for some reason guys with mustangs had ego problems back then i think it may have had to do with all the advertising hype about mustangs being muscle cars or sports cars and the dissapointment the owners got when they found out that they werent all that fast or handled like a sports car.
i never looked for a race in my challenger but if i thought some one else wanted to race and their car stood a good chance of being fast enough to make a good race than i was in.
we also had a 5 mile strecth of new hiway that hadnt been connected and wasnt open for traffic , it made a great race strip.not any of that red light to red light b.s. thats for idiots.

You will have to back up your response with more facts. What exactly do you mean by a really good car?
A good sports car for handling?
1. Live axle.
2. Suspension from a 1930's buggy wagon.
3. Heavy.
So no there.
They do look pretty nice with the retro (67 Shelby front end) but that wears off when there are a million of them on US roads.
Besides I love to drive, well; in a car that is fun to drive. I have never heard a magazine say that the Mustang is a pleasure to drive on the track or on the twisties so it only has it's looks to carry it - it certainly is not the cheap interior and the ability to change the dash lights to over a 100 colors.

my view on the mustang
the old ones -
the good - nice looking old pony car - can get them cheap - they are "a legend" (whatever) - and you can send $100 into summit and get whatever you want + v8 almost makes some torqe and it fun to burn the tires
the bad - no handaling - but its real old so thats ok i suppose - everyone and the mothers cats dog owns one
- the old ones i have no problem with they are what they are and they are cool - a good old american v8
- the foxes
The good - (early ones pretty much nothing) - the later cat eye Fi ones - decnt power esp for the time you pretty much had your choice of the crappy tpi or whatever 305 chevy maro or bird if you went all out you got a 350 but wasnt really special - send $100 into summit you get whatever you want - alot of 5spds - i personanly think the 86+ 302 was a good motor - great for burnouts and swinging
The bad - look like a 1980 toyota sedan - no handiling - god aweful interrior - no style - if you modifyied one some there is no way you can launch it or do anything without having 355s out back or your just gonna spin 1st and 2nd and get stupid
- the late foxes in my opinion are fun cheap american v8 rear drive cars
- SM95 - all i have to say is WTF - garbage garbage garbage but you can still send $100 to summit and get whatever you want and they are rear drive when everythign is going fw
overview - mustangs are good for burnouts and you can send $100 into summit and get whatever you want they have aftermarket up the butt
- they look like garbage both outside and inside
- they can sometimes go strait if you can hook up
- the owners are so cocky i cant even talk to them
Z vs Mustang
Zs i think are alot better looking can actully handle some and the turbos have the HP tq to beat them with some modifaction with 6 cylinders - plus i just think the Zs are alot cooler because not everyone and the mom owns one and because you cant send $100 into summit and have whatever you want thats the big part for me
in the end mustangs and Zs are 2 totally differnt cars and shouldnt really be compared - but there are to many mustangs and there owners are far to cocky ( and it kinda seems like the womans mid life crises car ) to me anyway
i personanly would go buy a FI fox just to do burnouts and junk in because they are cheap can do it and they dont really break
but im a Z guy and the 86T (stock) pulls my buddies 92 coupe w/ exhaust intake elctric fan and full drag suspension to about 100mph then he kinda pulls a bit but if the road ever cured he would crash and i would drive right by so whatever and the 70 pulls it off the line like nothing -
but whatever 2 differnt cars i just think there are to many mustangs and alot of the owners are far to cocky

Someone once told me that real sports cars only have two seats.
Now matter how "nice" the mustang may be, Ford builds something like 100,000 per year. No novelty. No statement being made saying "I'm different than evey other trailer park Joe." (sorry, I think trailer parks are nice, too)
