Hi folks,
A few weeks ago I saw the regular differential mount for sale on the Courtesy web site so I picked one up. Then a few days later I saw a "solid" differential mount. The ad cautioned that it was for racing but could be used for the street if you didn't mind the additional noise.
Anybody have one of these? How bad is the noise? Personally, I like certain mechanical sounds in a sports car. Are there any actual advantages to one over the other with regard to performance?
As always, thanks for the opinions.

i have one...love it...cause i kept ripping apart stock mounts....i didn't notice a dif in noise....but with the way my car's setup it's pretty damn loud anyways.

If you have a loud exhaust or stereo or drive with the windows open most of the time you shouldnt notice all that much noise.

Thanks folks. Looks like there's a solid differential mount in my 77's future.

ask Tony! They're grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!! Har har har...no really, they are excellent. I didn't notice much noise (but, like the others, my car is loud) but in my buddy's quieter Z you could hear a little gear whine upon decelleration in neutral. Sounds kinda like a siren in the distance, it's funny. Takes a while to get used to but like any other noise, you do get used to it eventually...

I have one in my 77 and the only noise I hear is a slight whine. it also got rid of the clunk that I had.

Would you be able to put the high-end thicker, synthetic gear oil (like royal purple) in the diff to reduce the noise? I've always thought about that but can't apply it at the moment (my Z is drivetrain-less at the moment).
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

A few things thing to keep in mind regarding diff mounts:
1. The front diff mount locates and restrains the differential's for/aft and vertical movement.
2. The moustache bar locates and restrains the differential's side to side and twisting movement.
Changing the front diff mount to a solid mount now makes that mount handle all the locating and restraining loads. Its common for the front differential crossmember to develop stress cracks and eventually tear as a result of it having to handle loads it was not designed for.
To keep this from happening you should also make the moustache bar mounts solid. That puts the loadings back into the differential mounts as Nissan designed.

John,
Solid will save you lots of money if you plan on racing your car. Even with the differential strap the rubber mount will break and the front end of the differential will jump up and break stuff, like the parking brake linkage (been there). The noise well worth the safety
Have a great day

Here is mine
Made from the stock mount, rubber is cut out, holes are dilled through both peices, and they are two 1/2" bolts wraped in hydraulic line for a little sound damper.
