Q:
Hi! I was open the thermostat housing on one of my other cars and badly enough the bolts seized and I tore of the head of the bolts. There Is still some thread that I can get out with the vice grip, and I dont want to break it any more. Would it be good to use WD40 to antiseize them, and how good is WD40? THanks
A:
PB Penetrating Oil. WD40 is (Go Figure) Water Displacement liquid, not penetrating oil.

WD40 won't do a whole lot, try some PB blaster or Zep penetrating oil overnight. If the vice grips don't work initially, try heating up around the bolt (not the bolt itself) with a small torch and then try the vice grips again.

Patience and packing the bolt area w/ a wad of raw cotton soaked w/ PB Blaster will help. At least 1-2 days if you can, before trying to get it out.
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.
And, now we are historic.

If so, you're screwed - - it's drill time ! !
THAT's why you should paint the gasket with some GOOD sealer -
otherwise the coolant s l o w l y seeps into the threads and turns the aluminum to white cement powder.

I was wondering when someone would mention an EZ-Out.
DO NOT use one. That is unless you want to create a huge headache by breaking it off then have to take the head off, then taking it to a machine shop to have it drilled out. Look at it this way. You have to drill a hole to use the EZ-Out. Why not just drill a larger hole while you're there, and retap the hole? But if you want to try the EZ-Out go ahead. I've already learned my lesson. Thankfully the timing cover was already off the car when I screwed up.
