Megasquirt install...pix...56Killer

General Chat

Q:

ok so I got MS V1 pcb3.0 (preassembled) and a pallnet 60mm tb for my 76 280Z. Instal was easy enough...I removed the stock injector dropping resistors and wires from the wireharness here..
This is how the wire harness looks finished..I used the GM IAT sensors and wire harness from diy.com
Well I dont have to look at the ugly afm anymore, the 60mm TB with spacer looks much better...I had to grind\port out the intake manafold to accept the larger TB. That was easy enough with a dremmel. Took about 2 hours..
Like the chrome intake plumbing?? Found'em at my local auto parts store(Big Wheel, Kent, WA) Spectire auto products company.
It took only one turn of the key and VROOOOM. Now all I need is an WB O2 sensor and guage for better tunning...That being said I have genorated some strange VE tables but the car runs. I believe the high ve numbers are due to having stock injectors with the larger TB. I think some dyno time is in order:-)
This only took 1 DAY. I started at 7 a.m. and by 6 p.m. VROOOOM.
Remember if you wana do this kindof project Read and Search the information is out there. It was not hard at all. and inexpensive....Total cost as of right now 600.00$U.S.D.
What I got for 600.00$
1 Megasquirt V1 pcb 3.0
2 GM IAT sensors w\wire plugs
1 wireharness
1 DB9 to USB cable
1 Pallnet 60mm TB
1 TB spacer w\gaskets and bolts
6 Injector plugs
4 chrome Intake plumbing pieces(3 90 degree turns and 1 small straight)
2 Brass fittings(for IAT sensors)
Yup I found it in a junkyard and made it look Sweet ;-)

Are we looking at a fuel only setup, or MS&S-E?

Nice to see some more of the NA guys doing MS. Everyone does there turbo stuff, but for NA, its MUCH better, as Ive been running my NA z on MS for a year now, and NO problems, LOTS of trips and miles too! Plus, I drive it EVERY day. Havent even opened up the laptop in MONTHS, hehe.
Lots of Z cars, 1970's-1983's.

That is a very clean install.
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

Mine's initially going to be set up NA, but I'll more than likely convert it to turbo at some point.
That actually looks very similar to what mine will look like about 2 months from now, minus a few details.
Keep us posted on how it runs.

The car runs wonderful. The throtle responce is a bit more touchy but I can smooth that out with more tuning. I just ordered a LM1 full O2 kit and that'll be here on this next Friday. I should have had one already but I decided to order a custom carbonfiber racing seat and 4pt harness(wich is installed in the car already;-) The seat doesn't help the car go any faster but atleast my @@@ stays put now...... I plan on giving a full right up on my setup and MS info once I get the O2 going. I do need some new injectors cuz the ones i have now run a bit too spread out. will do the O2 setup first to make shure my tuning is better!!!!Then i'm off to the dyno too tell all just how good\bad I can set up a modified na z motor....wish me luck!!!

1) "The throtle responce is a bit more touchy but I can smooth that out with more tuning."
>>>>>That is the engine RESPONDING! That is what it's SUPPOSED to do---but you get so use to that AFM-Induced lag between throttle application and GO that you get used to it! It's a GOOD thing. You want it less touchy, go back to a 50mm T/B, or use one of the JDM two barrel progressive T/B's---they are very forgiving to throttle inputs.
2)"I should have had one already but I decided to order a custom carbonfiber racing seat and 4pt harness(wich is installed in the car already;-) The seat doesn't help the car go any faster but atleast my @@@ stays put now...... "
Oh you are SO WRONG there! You even give the reason WHY you are wrong! A good seat and harness that holds you in the proper position behind the wheel will in some cases shave SECONDS off at a road course where you have to fight to stay in the seat because it's letting you slide around and you keep having to brace against the door or center tunnel to stay behind the wheel. It's a good thing!
