These are getting to be very rare items now...so that price is extremely fair.
Ole Skool "wouldn't have it any other way"
A:
I think it is fair as well, especially if it's crack free.
That being said, the rarer and higher the prices these parts go, the more justification you have of swapping other engines.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

Makes me want to sell the 2 I have on the floor of my workroom.

it probably depends on the timing as well. I noticed this was the only one on ebay at the time. Not everyone that uses ebay uses the zcar classifieds could be the other reason. Just hard to think you pick up a complete engine... hell, even a turbo car for less than $1000 in the right locations.
I have a rear end damaged 300zx i couldn't get 3/4 of the retail cost for due to the cost of repairs. I can sell the damn head light assymbleys alone for a few hundred dollars. There what, like $800 from the dealer?

I bought my mani from him (blax240) he sells some awesome finds. Because of the quality you get from him most of his auctions end very high. I saw a L28ET harness go for $250, thing almost looked brand new. The mani I bought from him was a lot cleaner then that one though. Already Jet Hot Coated to :)
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.
A:
I've tried to buy from him in the past but I always get outbid.

The price is more than I'm willing to pay. Anything over $50 isn't worth it to me...but I'm cheap! Heck, once a year or so, I can pick up a turbo car for $100-200 or so and strip it down (they're always way too far gone from rust).

it sucks, people are buying up all the turbo parts and then selling them for a high price.
