Q:
My friend and I just bought an 87 Maxima for $350 that we are planning to use as a budget drag racer. When I say budget, I mean like under $500 or $600. I know that sounds ridiculous, but we're poor college kids and we figured we would beat up this car instead of our z's at the track. My question is do any of you guys have any tips for free or really cheap mods? We're gonna fully strip the interior and all that, remove the exhaust, and get a cheapo intake. It won't be a street car at all, so any ideas are welcome. Thanks guys.

a turbo engine on a half off day at pick and pull might be $250 with a harness, and it would then make a nice sleeper.

if you can get some cheep Z31 turbo parts, it wouldn't take all that much to turbo the engine, then use water injection and run 12psi or so.

Mid 14's are stock Camaro Z28 times. I dated a girl in TX that had a 99 Z28 automatic. Best I could get it to pull was a 14.20@103 in the 1/4. Of course after running it the whole evening I thought about checking the trans fluid. It was completely grey and she had just had the fluid changed. Good thing her daddy had money and she was more than willing to spend it.

LS1 Z28s can run mid 13s, even automatics.
But anyway if there isnt an clearence issues get the turbo system or possible whole turbo engine from a 300ZXT.
