Q:

just picked up my 85', 2.3 turbo, intercooled, all stock running good with a quarter million miles. and burning no oil
I love classic turbo, fuel injection.
I know if anyone on this board has owned one they can help me out. the volvo forums are dead.
It pulls hard, Im having turbo surge, its sounding as the bov isnt working at all. I know what surge is. the turbo is in great shape, no play, no oil use, so im not driving it yet... when i crimp the vacume line to the bov the idle goes down a lil bit.
i figure a new bov will solve the problem, I plan on recirculating, 2g dsm will bolt up maybe?
I plan on running 14 psi, one thing at a time, thanx!

I had a 85 240 DL... got it with 227,000 miles and I drove it well into the 300,000's. I sold it still running fine, started every day. Only prob is it lost overdrive... probably the soliniod because it was on a switch on the shifter.
If you have a 2 part drive shaft, watch that carrier bearing, they like to go out without warning.

No longer own one, but the timing belts/gears MUST be replaced sooner than you think or these engines that have been revved a lot will be killed by bent valves.
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.

782+2, Ive been reading all night on volvos and it says almost every engine in the older volvo is a non interfeirence engine. and I would geuss it would be since its only 8 valve.
I have fear of old timing belts everyday of my life. (Z31 past experience).
i really wouldnt geuss that it is though. ive been reading

I have a BMW Turbo Diesel with 300K european ( mostly german autobhan) KM's... now that is a fun torque tractor ( he what can i say, it is a station! )
The volvos in the us are sadly diffrent from they european sisters and brothes... so you have less HP and more emmission crap... dont you ahve a vac leak somewhere ?

Here's a great website for Volvos http://www.brickboard.com/ I've had great luck getting help for my old Volvo's here. Currently driving a 1989 240 DL wagon with 278,800 miles (original drive train, still runs great!) and a 1992 740 Turbo wagon with 120K. My 740 "hunts" a little at idle as well. I've been told it's most likely a small vaccum leak but I haven't found it yet. Don't know where you got your information but a B230 engine will self-destruct if the timing belt breaks or slips!!! The older engines were not a problem and you may be safe.

Ive got a mazda recirculating blow off valve on there, and a cone filter. and exuasht broken at the driver door...
time to get a real boost gauge, turn up the boost, put a rrfpr on, (since I have one laying around) any other sugestions?
