other than certain death in an accident, it looks kinda cool.
A:
It certainly exibits it's similarity to motorcycles in that respect.

that thing looks like it would slide under other cars, well, except for the drivers head.
A:
Death? Oh well. I WANT ONE.

No matter how good she looks, some other guy is sick and tired of putting up with her.
A:
I think it's really cool. Plus, imagine taking your g/f/fiancee/wife on a nice drive to the mountains with the top open. At that point, with no traffic, you could take your helmet off and just enjoy the weather. Its like a super sleek conv. and for $17,000. I might just have to get on a preorder list if they decide to produce it.

A:
i would rather get the ariel atom , even if cost double than that.
A:
I agree I think the Atom is a better car, but that VW is still intereseting to say the least.

the answer lies not within the question but rather within the answer itself!
A:
Tony - let the youngsters ohh and ahh -
sure there's nothing new -
I'm still waiting for the airplane car and the show today on Discovery channel just showed a new one.
Right - like the FAA and any other gov'mint agency is going to let us all fly around in them.

Of course with airplane cars - just issue to teenagers and oldsters to keep them off the streets.

i'm rated with the faa,
but it's not the faa that's the problem, it's physics. when you cross applications you end up with a crappy car that's also a crappy airplane. same thing happens when you cross a car with a boat, you get a crappy car and a crappy boat.

well i think to buy that thing and still be able to buy a car at a chevy dealership thats faster is useless , the cool thing about the airel atom is that the only cars that can keep up with it are extremely expensive , so for 30 grand the ariel atom is a great bargain. thats one of the only reasons i like the ariel atom better , because its so much faster than anything else , well except for the enzo ,carrera gt , and the veyron .but still pretty damm fast.
A:
"reasons i like the ariel atom better , because its so much faster than anything else"
well, other off-the-shelf stock cars. pleanty of cars can be made faster than the 160hp atom (and cheaper) and motorcycles will out perform it too for much cheaper.
A:
yeah i said cars! not bikes , thats on another level , have you checked the website? they got 300 hp kits now , also i dont know wich one was the one they tested on top gear but 0-60 in 2.5 secs if you can shift fast enough is extremely fast , faster than anything else i have heard of , except for that stupid corvette lingenfelter, and some supercars.
A:
it's an engine on a rail. I can build one a hell of a lot cheaper than $60 ,000 that they want for the 300hp one. it does NOT take a supercar to accelerate that fast (just hp and a light frame). if i'm lazy i know some go-cart guys that can make a serious frame for me for 2 grand.
79 280ZX -The best selling sports car of all time
A:
hmm thats interesting , i would have one built if i had the resources , but can you have it tagged so it could be registered and driven in the street? legally?
A:
why not? it looks lile the atom just has some cheezy bolt-on lights to make it street legal. hell, if you use a 63vw "pan" as a starting place you don't even legally need seatbelts to drive on the road.
just take your "car" to the dmv for a safety inspection and then register it. Here is the proceedure for new york:

A:
I would buy this car. Then I would put a Hayabusa engine in it. Forget 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, more like 4 seconds flat. Plus it would still get 40+ mpg. I'll take it!

A:
what ??? what are you taking about ? the ariel does 0-60 in 2.5 secs, hmm i guess you could build some monster thing like the ariel for much cheaper , i would use a high revving lightweight motor , but i think the engineering that went into the ariel for cornering and high speed stability would be hard to duplicate, in the end maybe it would just be overall simpler and cheaper to just buy an ariel atom.
ohh yea also abut that hayabuse engine idea , in the new scc some guy asked if he could ut a hayabusa engine in some pos geo metro or something , and the explained all the different reasons this would be a hard task to do ,the simple way would be to put an s2000 motor like they do in the ariel, it revs really high like that hayabusa but not as high and its light as hell too.
A:
handling is just low mass and low center of gravity. that's why it's easy when there is no extra body weight like there would be in a regular car body. all you need are some grippy tires and lay the engine low and use some tubes to hold it together and it's done (a street go-cart). no need to drop 60 grand for that go-cart feel.
A:
Take an "Alzheimer's Angels" three wheel motorcycle. Drive it in reverse and there you go.

I posted photos of Rick Yacucci's Turbo Busa powered homebilt streamliner.
619 HP at 10,500rpm, and over 311mph at Bonneville.
To put that in persepctive, that's over 100mph faster than he went on his Busa Bike there at Bonneville!
You know you are making power when you twist the drive flange off the crankshaft PTO end!
Bikes Suck!
