Q:
Norm, could you be so kind and post your time slip?
There is a guy at work with a modified TR6 and a BMW M3 roadster and he very seriously daubts you figures. TR6 has higher compression, tripple webers, headers and modified exhaust. He said he did not know that the 240 had independent rear suspension and thaught it had a solid axle!!
So, he wants to see a time slip.
You know what else he said,...... ready: "The 240Z was nothing to write home about"
I just about fell of the chair.
I need to prove him wrong. Told him already to come on here and post his oppinions. I guess he couldn't deal with the responses anyhow (probably knows it).
Thanks much!

I can verify that every time slip Norm talked about is true, and I have been to several of the venues where he posted them (our corporate offices are nearby where Norm Lives).
I have witnessed the time slips, in the "shoebox".
There is one other person I know that can vouch for the time slips, he saw them the same time I did.
They are real.

British sports cars resent the 240Z because the 240Z put them out of business.

Are we talking about the same car here? The Triumph TR6? Does it really matter how fast that ugly POS goes? lol

I think the TR-6 is a fine looking car. I think the one in that picture on the beach is rusted away by now. But the looks I like. They sound great too in my opinion. Paul

i guess he never reads the automotove trade magazines or looks at sales figures or past scca championships. no need to prove him even more wrong, imho.

Those old Truimphs won't rev past ~6000 or so reliably. 5-main bearings, vs. 7 for the Z. 7000rpm to them is like 8500rpm to us. Do-able, but not by hacks. Its chassis and suspension (despite IRS) are archaic and not any more suited for high-performance than its engine.
I researched TR-6 vs. 240Z back in college, and there's no comparison in any department. I love the TR-6, but it was a hopeless attempt by Triumph to update a 50s design. Looks neat-o, but compared to the Z its performance potential is VERY limited.

Could it be because the 240Z was sporty AND reliable? Hmm
Does Britain even have a fairly reliable automanufacturer?
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:
mike240 nailed it. the z was finally a reliable sport s car. you could actualy plan a trip in a z and be sure that you would make it.

Here's a link to my last time trial outing with my street-driven, L6-engined, non-turbo 240Z:
http://www.comscc.com/results/nhis0505.htm
Only cars quicker than me that day were a winged formula car, a sports racer (essentially a closed-wheel, winged formula car), and a NASCAR Cup car (and I beat one of its two drivers).
Show that to yer bud:)
Briann510 and now-gone Normie are yer boys for time slips. My only trip to the drags, with fuel delivery issues, yielded a slow, slow, sputtering 13.5 @ 106.5 :(
:)
I don't worry about Triumphs.

Who cares if Z people prefer Zs to old TRs or MG (A,B,C) etc. British break down alot but when they're running, you don't want to sell them & when they're not running, you can't sell them. They have a following as passionate as Z cars. To each his own.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:
TR6's = slow, unreliable, boring cars. Hell the miata blows it out of the water.
Enno were is this guy, it'd be nice to show him what a Z will do, the TR would be a waste of my gas, but I'll show him how slow his M3 roadster is.
You show him time slips the next thing he'll say is anyone can make/photoshop a timeslip!

What is an "M3 Roadster", anyway? M Roadster or M3 Convertible? Either way, he shoulda gone with the hardtop version!
Briann,
heheh, I retract my "I don't worry about Triumphs" blanket statement. TR-4 4cyl in the 12's? NA? Impressive!
A:
yea i have to admit my ol tr4 hauled azz for sure. of course it only weighed 1700 lbs also which helped a great deal. i cant remember what was done to the engine other than it had webers on it a header and like 13:1 compression.
A:
i had two tr-6's. nice car, top down, lady beside you. good times.
A:
It's a classis British Roadster, they really are nice, save for the Lucas Factor.

I'm a Hack, and my engine spins to 8500...and then some.
The 2-Liter will go higher than that.
I would say it would be like 9500 for us---that seems to be "non-hack territory" for our L-Engines... LOL

There is less of a "bottom feeder mentality" when dealing with British Roadsters, than when dealing with the early Z-Crowd.

i worked on a triumph stag for a friends dad. it had so many electrical problems. the car would not start no matter what we tried. then my friend replaced one of the lights near the door............. car fired up right away after that. that was one car that i hated to work on.
