This is probably old news for everyone but I am slow to take on new technology (I didn't switch from glasses to contacts till the late 90's). It is not that I dislike innovation, I am just from the old school of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!
My youngest son received the Delphi XM radio package as a Xmas gift from his older brother. We installed into his 82 Mustang and it works great. I wasn't sure how the reception would be since he has an older style FM radio (non digital), but so far so good. He also got the home desk package and can bring in the receiver to continue listening.
If anyone is considering this as an update, I certainly would recommend. Best Buy has a deal currently that offers a $30 mail in rebate so the entire package only sets you back about $90. Of course the montly fee is $12 for the service, but the selection is great. It has some great "old school" channels for us leftovers of the 60's & 70's, excellent sport channels, variety of talk radio, and the one we are enjoying the most is the comedy channels. We sat up last night till about 3 am listening to some HBO standup playbacks. I haven't laughed that hard in years.
I think I will get one of these for the daily driver Z. Got to get some new speakers though...........

That's cool, I was looking into this earlier this year.
This is a deal I recieved in an email a while back. Seems pretty decent, but as of now only one of my Zs has a working radio.....

I love satellite radio. I got one along with a stereo for the Z for christmas. Sounds great and I can move the unit between the Zs once I get the 81' going again.

I had a coworker that had one of the radios. He let me use it for a time and I liked it alot, there are some "rain fade" issues, but they are not bad at all. The biggest thing I found out that I did not like was listening to say the 80's or the 70's channel. They did statr to play the same play list after a number of days. That has always been my problem with digital radio, I had it in my appartment and the same thing, I got through the play list and it started again.
The one really cool thing was I got to one of the channels, and they were playing some for the talks FDR did while he was in ofice, VERY COOL. he was in one talk speaking about the VERY thing that is going on in our government today, very interesting, and he did not support it in the least. Figure he knew a little more about government then the idiots in office now? I do for sure, but I did learn one thing though, the things being proposed in federal government are not new, but rather just respun with a new name, and they STILL are detrimental to my country just like they were way back then.

I'm really considering putting one in my car. I drive between VT and Maine alot and there is a huge dead spot goint through The White Mountians and the XM would come in really handy there. And you have to keep in mind, this is fairly new system and like cell phones it will only get clearer and the range will only get broader. PS Buy SERIUS My frined has a bunch of stocks. :)

Both my wife and I have XM, and I will NEVER go back if I can help it. I have gotten now where I despise 15 commercials between songs. With XM, I dont have to worry about it. I love the comedy channels, the 80s, and some of the indie rock you dont hear down here in the conservative south.

There was a guy in the book "Level 7" that realized that the song playlist on the intercom system in their super secure fortress was only X days long.
The last thing he did before dying, was to push the button on the radio, to let it play on, powered forever by the nuclear reactor that poisioned the safest of the safe on Level 7...

I too, at first, doubt about XM/Sirius satellite radio. Who wants to pay to listen to the radio?
My brother has XM radio build into his new Acura. He got three months trial subscription which he haven't activated yet. BUT, his radio was able to pick up the normal "regular" XM channels like the 70's and 80's. It's pretty damn good. No commercials. He said he doesn't want to activate the service because he doesn't care for the extra channels like the MTV, CNN, and crap. As long as his build in XM radio can pick up the regular 80's channels and no commercials, then it's all good.
Now, I might consider an XM radio myself.
Funny thing was, he told me while looking thru their XM advertising pamplet that there's even a Playboy channel on XM if you are willing to subscribe. I'm wondering, WTF! Listening to some sex moaning while going to work......ha! ha!

I thought about getting satellite radio, then I realized I had car stereo's with AUX inputs.
Just so happens, my MP3 player plugs in with no problems and with over 26,000 songs in my library, I can listen for over 70 days straight 24x7 and not hear the same song twice, I figured, what the hell do I need satellite radio for?!
And then I have a boat load of audio books on my MP3 player to mix things up a bit on long trips.
Of course, a little Sean Hannity and some Rush would be nice to break-up the monotony of the music and books!

If you have a long commute, satellite radio is the way to go. Be warned that it will lose reception under tunnels and interchanges!
I don't see why everybody doesn't like the idea of paying for radio. I personally don't listen to radio because of the commercials. I'd gladly pay money to have no commercials . . . IF THE RADIO STATIONS ARE WORTH THE MONEY.
I'd rather buy my own mp3's and mix them into my own playlists. I think I have better taste in music than any radio DJ in the world . . . obviously because it's my own personal taste.

There is no Playboy channel or "regular" XM channels. Either you get all of it or none of it. You're either making it up or your brother is. This is how misinformation gets spread on the internet.
A:
They used to have two services a few years ago, a regular and a premium. Since then everything has been rolled into one package. I like it because of the comedy channels and the theme channels, sometimes you hear good stuff that never makes it to the regular radio.

Take it easy silverzx. You must be newbie to satellite radio. I think his brother must have gotten an old outdated XM flyer.
There WAS a Playboy Radio Channel started in 2002. I don't remember exactly, but I think before, there was a premium channel (XM 205), $2.95 extra per month. A friend of mine DID subscribe to it. Popular channel for the Truckers. There was a show call "Night Calls" on weeknights and "Sex Court." It was an adult call-in talk show.
I think XM cancelled the Playboy channel last year in 2005. The channel is now NHL play by play for XM satellite radio.
I wouldn't be surprise if the channel comes back, or any similar porno/sex channel. Afterall, sex sells! XM now needs a channel to rival Howard Stern from Sirius Radio.

I'm visiting my family and here it is. This XM brochure was included along with by brother's new 2006 Acura, owner's manual and all the reading materials that are included when buying a new car. He brought his car 31st December 2005 and it has a built in XM radio.
"Everchang" could be right and XM could have already cancel the "Playboy Channel," lump everything up in ONE service. I don't know, I really don't care for it, as I'm more into the 60's, 70's, 80's and the FOXNews, etc.
"silverzx" - THINK before you open your mouth, Freshman! Why would one wants to make up something such as stupid and ridicules as Playboy's Radio existence?
