that is one clean car
A:

Very very clean.
One thing I just don't understand though.. less than 35,000 miles! Did he enjoy looking at it so much that he never drove it? I mean its like 25 years old.. I just don't know how so many people can buy a car, obviously love it quite a bit but never actually drive the damn thing.

Gorgeous car. As for phxz31's comment regarding how people can leave cars without driving them for so long, I have an 81 ZXT with 56,000 miles on her. It was strictly trailered to shows for 19 years simply because I felt the car was the best designed and engineered car of 1981, plus it was one of the first turbo's in Michigan. I put plates on her in 1998 and have been driving her in the summer on sunny days only. It's called "for the love of automobiles". Some people can do it, some can't. There's no right or wrong except for the owner. That's how we do it.

Yeah I just have so much fun driving my 300zx that I just couldn't stand to let it sit there unused..
But again, that 280zxt probably wouldn't look as good as it does if it had been used everyday.. so I can see you're point as well.

i can understand both points here i have a 88 shiro that i love it has 43k miles on it but i always want to drive it but dont want to put mileage on it so its my summer car only.....oh well
A:

pitty it has aftermarket pinstripes, if a car is that stock and low miles, and cost that much $ it better be original down to the lightbulbs
You can sleep in your car, but cant drive in your house

OMG - That reminds me of my 280ZX. That's pretty clean. But, a reserve at $19,500. Maybe $10,500 for that. He'll have a hard time selling it for that reserve.
Here's what I sold for $4500 this past year. It took me about a year to get that price too:

phxZ31, did you participate in the poll below about miles driven?
Better yet, did you read any of the responses?
35K in 25 years seems like the average mileage driven by most of the people here. Seems people who actually DRIVE their Z's are few and far between!
So why should this guy be different!

"Best in the USA"
Well, you can be sure that guy is selling a Texas Car! Typical Texas B.S. Bluster.
While the car is clean, I can think of at LEAST three here in SoCal with LOWER mileage, and slightly better documentation.
Matter of fact, I can think on one with either double or Triple digits on it's odometer, and in FAR more pristine shape than that car.
Aftermarket battery in the thing says to me "opportunistic sale of a car that sat in storage" and "electrical problems that simply haven't manfiested themselves yet"...
Houston? Seawater Port? No Rust. No, none that is showing....yet.
But "Best in the USA?"
Hardly!

Yeah I did participate in the "how many miles this year" thread, and read the responses. I guess it does seem that many people hardly put miles on their Z's around here.
I guess I'm just amazed. I easily could have gone over 33,000 miles this year, but for 2 months I had the Z off the road for some major maintenance. I will be taking the Z off the road again for a month or so cause the front suspension is in need of complete overhaul.

The right buyer will come along and pay over $10,000 for that car.. I would not sell my 81 Turbo which is all original except the battery for $10,000.. I turned down $15,000.. My car has 21,000 miles on it and the new car window stickers are still on the car.
A:

I don't blame ya Matt, if I had the car you have described many times on this forum, I would not part with it for the amount of cash you will be or have been offered. BTW, I think the Blue & Silver paint scheme is one of the best ever.
I am not sure how to feel about the value of the Z and ZX cars. I have watched many transactions (ebay, classifieds, auctions, etc...) for the last 2 years and kept track of almost all the "higher valued, low mileage" Z's. No surprises and lots of "no thanks, I will just keep it".
The fact that we have more dollars in our restored Z's than we can ever expect to get back supports the theory that we may have crossed a threshold with our cars that may not be bridged for quite some time.
For guys like yourself that have original cars that have been well maintained and rarely driven, I would be curious to see how it pays off it the long run. For what you payed for the car new and what you could expect to get for it now, even YOUR price, would be a sad return on the dollar. Supports the fact that buying and selling old cars for ROI is a risky business. You have to be more lucky than good, IMHO. (This has been discussed many times before on this forum and I certainly don't want to open that can of worms again!)
I ran some numbers the other day with a fellow car enthusiast, he was marveling at a 67 Vette that brought $75K at a classic car auction he attended. Well, I asked him to look at it from this point of view: the car sold new for around $5K in 1967, back then that was an average blue collar working class American's yearly salary. It resold today at basically your middle class American's yearly salary. In both situations, it took one year of the target buyers salary to close the deal.
Now when you look at Z or ZX cars and do that same comparison, we are very lacking in the dollar value area.
Just an observation. Be curious to see what others think........
Of course, I for one don't care about the value, my Z is all about fun and driving equity.

"Houston? Seawater Port? No Rust. No, none that is showing....yet."
that's as dumb as saying that all california cars are rust buckets because they are close to a coast. unles you park it in the bay, seawater does not flow into houston and is not a problem.
A:

Make sure it's a climatological map, buddy.
Humidity makes for CONDENSATION, condensation leads to rust.
Houston is HUMID.
SoCal is a DESERT, the water is PIPED IN. There is no humidity. That's why SoCal and AZ cars (as well as New Mexico) are the most rust free in the USA.
Get much further east, and HUMIDITY starts playing a role in corrosion.
But you gotta be right, so you go ahead and give me that climatalogical map to assuage your ego. Go right ahead.
(Rolls Eyes)
Still doesn't change the fact it's a B.S. Texas Claim of "Best in the USA"
I call Bullsh*t on that claim! It's a clean car, but no way in hell it is "The Best in the USA", not by a longshot. But of course, you missed that point, didn't you?

same old bs tony. i have one in a garage here and it does not see big swings in humidity or condensation or rust. it's no worse than anywhere else that a car is garaged.
A:

Humidity will kill a Z. Let me put it this way, as you can see from my sig I have two in my driveway. The '81 has spent its entire time in far West Texas-Southern New Mexico, it has very little rust. The '79 has spent most of it's time here, but it spent a couple of years in LA and was near the coast. It has far more rust than the 81. And both of these cars have spent most of there times outdoors. If its near the coast it will have rust, you may not see it but it will be there, check out the Z restoration video on one of the other threads, it doesn't look like it has rust. Once you get underneath where condensation hides and can't be seen or removed you start getting huge rust holes.

let me put it to you, a PROPERLY garaged z will have little or no rust down here. i did a complete "frame up" refurb on my zx and found only a tad of rust near the windshield moulding, NOTHING in the rest of the body, not even under the battery.
sure if you leave your Z out in the weather it will rust NO MATTER where it is. my one owner properly maintained garaged zx is a daily driver and still had no rust problem.

tkr514 has a climatically controlled HUMIDOR GARAGE GUYS!
Isn't that special?
Maybe you and "Hybrid77" should park your cars in the same garage so you can both have the same elementally-isolated strage place.
Oh, wait, you already do...
Skirt the point why don'tcha? "BEST IN THE USA" My fat white, pimply, hairy a$$! Clean car, SURE, but NOT "The best in the USA" Typical Texas Bullsh*t.

Don't put examples up there, or use common sense. Don't you know tkr has a "Humidor Garage" that removes all temperature variations, and blocks out through desiccation all humidity entering.
He just can't stand to have someone call Bullsh*t on a Bullsh*t claim.
It's a CLEAN car, but BY NO MEANS is it "The Best in the USA".
It's the typical "I'm from Texas, everything in Texas is the best, and everyone else is second fiddle!" Real Hank Hill kinda guy.
Can't stand the fact that the car---while clean, simply is misrepresented through the colored lenses of "Texas Primrose Optics."

tony,
not a "humidor", but it damn sure keeps the moisture off the car! like i said, when i took my 1 owner car apart, there was no rust on the lower body.
i work with hybrid77 and he parks his cars even further north in houston than i do (darn near college station). hardly would call that area "coastal" since there is a burn ban in effect for being so dry.
as far as "best in the usa", well, we all know that is just used car talk. no one believes that.

Forget it,TK. Tony D cannot believe that anyone but himself knows anything. My 260Z is not seeing any ill effect from being near Houston either. If you take marginal care with your car it will last just fine and not rust. Looking at the one on eBay, it looks like it was well cared for. And I would take a Texas car over cars from 48 other States (except Arizona and SoCAl).

I'll take anything but rust n I suggest ad Florida to the list of good areas(except along A1A) but if we dont do home work we may get nailed anywhere!, found myself great ol cars in FL (very careful with the low mileage ones way south)... n in a second anywhere LOL
