I just donated a 95 suburban with 228k miles, all original drivetrain yesterday. It had a bad cutting off problem that I didn't want to deal with fixing, ended up having 2 bad tires, etc. The new charity IRS laws are a major downer to the charity organizations. When you donate you have
a) Get 500.00 tax receipt
b) Let the organization sell it, and if they sell it for anything, you get that amount.
So anyone with a car worth say, 3 grand or less on the private market, is hesitant to donate because they'll probably just end up getting the 500.00 or waiting another tax year to get maybe a grand. Remember, you have to donate it TODAY [not likely] or you'll have to wait an entire year to write it off your taxes.
