I'd say a drivers race..
if you can't race it or take it to bed its not worth having
A:

not all that fast...it is kind of crazy driving a car that redlines @ 9000 rpms...it doesn't even really get going until 5000 rpms...no match for a well kept TT...noticibly faster than my vert though...my vert is smoother (by a long shot, much more solid)

my sister has one i love it........... its red totally stock not too bad but no match at all for a tt i driven both i think the quality of the tt is better but not the 350z....i thought the 350 was a little cheap to me but thats my 2 cents.

The steering is a bit twitchy. Power doesn't come on until 5Krpm. Not much trunk space. It has a pretty big blind spot with the top up. It's pretty cramped but can be driven by a 6' guy. No larger IMHO. Other than that it's a pretty nice car. I love the torque the 350Z has compared to it.
Nice car, looks better than 350Z vert imho. However, 350Z Hatchback has more torque and looks great with less of a blind spot. Vert wasn't as important to me and saving 9K and having a more comfortable / torque able car for around town. So, I went with a 350Z Hatchback.
I mean you have to rev the heck out of the Honda to make power and that's going to call attention to you on the street. Totally uneccessary these days.

My best friend has a 2001 S2000. It is a very good car. It can function just fine as a daily driver, but the biggest thing you do notice is the lack of torque. It is very fast when driven hard, but it does have to be flogged to squeeze the speed out of it. It is hands down the best handling car I've ever driven, and that includes the Porsche Boxster, 350Z, C5 Corvette, Dodge Viper, of course 300ZXTT, etc. It is extremely responsive to driver inputs, and it has a simply amazing gearbox.
I am 6'4" and I have to jam myself in it. With the seat fully adjusted back and the backrest maxed out against the rear bulkhead, my knees are pushing on the dashboard and my hair is tickling the convertible top. With the top down I feel like I'm looking almost over the top of the windshield. In '04 they increased driver seat room marginally, but if you're near my height it is probably not the car for you.
Comparing it to my 300ZXTT, it feels like a featherweight, and it feels like I'm literally wearing the car. I really like the roominess of the Z, but I also really like the connection to the road that the S2000 gives. I would definitley consider owning one if I fit into it a little better. You have to drive one to really appreciate it, and when you do you have to have the freedom to take it to redline through the gears to really get the full appreciation. Just my $.02.

Imo a very respectable ride. It does need to be flogged to befast but handling wise, it doesnt get much better. Dont knock it just because its a Honda...stock on stock it will spank a z any day. I am not talking a staight line spank because in my opinion there is NO straight line in a Z. If thats how you judge/compare cars, get a muskank.....

It's a 2.2 [or 2.0 pre 2004] 4 cylinder engine, not a 3.5ltr v6. So yes, it doesn't have a lot of torque, nor is the power low in the RPM range. Just like every other 4 cylinder motor ever produced with good hp. I think people should bring up the engine before knocking its capabilities as if it is the car's fault, it's that way on purpose. The tq is a flat line, so it isn't 'that' bad. Yes the power is up high, and there is a certain aspect of fun and uniqueness to that, especially these days.
I also don't see how driving in the upper RPM ranges attracts a lot of attention, unless you perhaps have a loud exhaust. The gears are very short and the 2-3 shift is just under 60mph, and yes that is shifting at 9k rpms.
The car is one of the few interesting lighter FR platforms left on the market. They are tracked like animals and take heavy abuse screaming for more. The seats are awesome in all year models and the 04 and ups have a much improved interior, at worst equal to the 350z's in class and quality. The stock exhaust, header, etc., is very heavy and over 100lbs can be saved from upgrading that just to another stainless steel unit, almost 150lbs can be saved by going to a lighter metal. Thtat's 2800lbs with a driver.
240hp 2800lbs
287hp 3300lbs
Almost exact power to weight ratio, tq goes to the Z, but then again the z needs it and the s2k may not to some.
Comparing a 350z to a Mustang GT is much more logical than comparing a S2k to one. They call the S2k the sportbike with 4 wheels.

I used to own one...and it was supercharged....it would spank stock TT's and 350z... I could take out E46's, i could pull on C5's on the freeway, much harder on the streets cuz of the lack of torque....03 cobra..well, couldnt really touch that car..wrx's were no problem..
But stock for stock:
s2000 Vs. 350z=drivers race, until 3rd gear where the z will pull away..This is a straight line..
With cornering the z has the TQ where the S dont, so if the road has a bunch of tight corners, the guy in the s2000 better really be winding the car out.
The car is fun to drive at limit, and is very smooth for just daily driving.
The power for these cars actually kick in at 6k..i believe the ones with the 2.2 motor have less of a vtec feel...Hence the I-vtec....
when i bought my S it was because the 350 JUST came out and was no where to be found and the 300TT was just a bit too old for me ...meaning i couldnt find one with low enough miles. (a 94 TT was my first choice :),,,
