Nothing beats the sound of a American V8...
Nothing looks and feels better than driving a Z...

That would be fun to hang out with a group like that, and be competitive.

It's not just the car it's the driver. Ask the instructors up at Watkins Glen about the red 3.1L 240 that took on their GT2 and 3 Porsches, along with a vette and passed them all.
Put the owner and driver of that red 240 (Dan Baldwin) in one of those $80,000. plus cars and no one would have been close all day.
The biggest difference is the speed he slides through corners since he can't go any faster than me on the straights.
A:

True it's the driver but we aren't talking about a road course in this vid, it's all straights. You can tell from the video that most of them were automatics so really all you have to do is put your foot down.
Damn nice video. I only wish my Z's were half as fast.

Yeah although, even being up against cars like those, a 3.1L 240 isn't exactly going to be slow. I bet it makes at least 300HP, and given the weight ratios, that's like a 3000 lb car with 400-425HP.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:

My sons 3.2 stroker 240z stays pretty close with my Z06 through the gears. hes making 320 hp at 2410 lbs. and im at 405 hp at 3100 lbs. , i got him on the top end though at 180 and the Vette handles better, but for street driving/racing his Datsun takes care of pretty much anything...
on a track with a mix of turns and straights it would be all driver between us for sure. a Datsun would need some damn good suspension to be equal to a Z06 handling wise.

WannaBREz -
I hear you - that's why my '77 280Z has a vanity tag that says '280Z28'. It's running an LS1 out of a Z28 Camaro backed by a T56. My car was the prototype for a conversion kit now sold by John's Cars, www.brokenkitty.com, in Dallas, TX. There are close to a dozen LSx powered Z's out there now with several more under construction even in England and Australia.
It can be seen in my photo album at www.hybridz.org or www.cowtownzclub.org in the gallery.
