I had one from last november to this april. I really liked it but I had to sell it to get my 240Z. When I find another one for cheap I'm gonna buy it, unless that Z31 sitting in the drive way grows on me.

Owned 4 of them. Loved them all! I have the engine out of one in my 510. Why are you asking? Thinking of getting one? Paul

I have one Paul. I'm surprised word hasn't got to you yet. Forrest is all upset cause I'm putting an L28ET in it and he thinks I will never own another S30.
I like the little car cause of the body lines, it being RWD, it's a Nissan and there is so much aftermarket support for them, it's not even funny.

I was just browsing Ebay and what not for aftermarket Altima stuff. Got to love the 4 cylinders for keeping the cost down. And the cross flow heads for headers.

Pallnet,
Why did you choose the L28 to put in it vice one of the RB engines? Or even a turboed KA, SR or my personal favorite for the S13, the CA18DET?
I had a 90 hatch and was going to put a CA in it (very cheap, very strong and can rev like an RB26 (which incidentally a CA18 is an RB26 with two cylinders cut off)). I got to drive my friend's Silvia with a CA in it when I was stationed in Okinawa. They are very stout, extremely underrated engines.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:
The L28ET is far less cheaper than any other engine option. Plus, I think a stock or even a mildly tuned L28ET is much more practical for the street. I personally love the flat power curve.
I've never owned an S13 personally, but I did have an S14 prior to my 240Z. Those things are tuned to give a natural understeer . . . so it's no wonder it's very easy to drift.

I can understand why a person would choose the L28ET over something like an RB20DET. The L28ET is similar in size and weight to the RB20DET, makes similar power(180hp/203ft-lbs vs the RB20ETs 215hp/193ft-lbs), but it's WAY cheaper.
With the money it takes to buy a RB, SR, CA or even a turboed KA, you could have a very powerfull L28.

I had two of each hatch and coupe. Only one was an auto trans. Even the crappiest one (auto, hatch) was pretty cool. I liked the body also. I often called them my poor mans 300ZX. They handle really predictably and are not harsh. Can't wait to see yours. Paul

ZX-AE ...
we are all very very familiar with L series motors... for example Pete has rebuilt many many L6's motors.. and has TONS and i mean TONS of parts for the motor..
why in the hell would you want to swap to an unfamiliar motor (ie. RB20 or SR20) and pay a hell of alot more in parts!!
L series motors are cheap, easy to work on, parts are easy to find, and they sound spectacular. Keep in mind the FLAT power curve on a street car is awsome

Exactly. In addition to what I said, cheap parts(even cheaper if you already own them), and experiance make the choice a no-brainer.

Well, just about anything is ok around here in Louisiana when it coems to motor swapping.
You guys hit the nail on the head when it comes to the L28ET. I love the engine and I have at least 2 of anything I would need to build more like the one in my S30 right now.. ;) if not better...:0
I have access to (2) CA18DE's in pulsars and I know what's needed to make them RWD but with the L28ET in the S13, I will be the first with one on the road.....
I'm keeping the "NISSAN" valve cover to maybe fool a few ppl that have no clue what they're looking at if I have to pop my hood. I'm want to make her a real sleeper. Clean but a beast.
If anyone was wondering.
As far as ripping apart my S30 on the first. The date is kinda pushed back till I can clear room in the garage. I have plenty of goodies in the garage that will be going on Ebay first. Count your bucks fellas and be ready. Some of it was upgrades for my upgraded parts that's already on my car...:0 I just didn't get around to installing them.

why in the hell would you want to swap to an unfamiliar motor (ie. RB20 or SR20) and pay a hell of alot more in parts!!
PrOxLaMuS, the RB20 (installation wise) would require just as much fabrication as the L28, as the S13 did not come with it. As far as being unfamiliar, the L28 would be just as much of a pain in the ass to install as the RB. The CA18 and SR20 did come in the JDM versions and are physically a bolt in job. You can find CA18DETs (and RB20s) with harness and transmission for $1500. I'm also pretty sure that the L28 weighs more than a CA or an RB20.
And since the S13 was engineered for a 4 cyl that sits back in the engine bay, the inline six will change (albeit just a little) the near perfect weight distribution of the S13.
"I have access to (2) CA18DE's in pulsars and I know what's needed to make them RWD but with the L28ET in the S13, I will be the first with one on the road....."
Pallnet, I wasn't talking about the CA18DE's, I was talking about getting a JDM CA18DET out of an 89-94 180sx. They are only about 5HP shy of an L28ET anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I love the L-series engines. They are very robust, reliable and bulletproof, but I can think of better engines to put in an S13. I am curious to see a 240sx with one shoehorned into it.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:
From what I've read the RB weighs a little more than the L-series. Think about it like this L20A vs RB20, same displacement, both iron block, both have aluminum heads, but the RB's head is larger head and twice the valve train.
$1500 for an RB20? you can pick up an L28ET + tranny and harness for a fraction of that.

or a whole car with an L28ET and everything to boot for $300.
but he is doing it because he wants to... and of course there would be "better" engines to put in the car... but who cares?
an l28et in an s13 would be kick ass!!!!
