General Chat
Q:
I would like to share a Christmas present
with the whole world.
But I would like to plug the forum and, possibly
the moderators, for approval first.
No, I haven't gone that far to the left, not to worry!!
Specifically...I'ts a computer fix.
It's a "rootkit" issue, not a virus or worm.
It can cause the "blue-screen-of-death",
completely locks-up "Vista- Beta-1", making it unusable.
And, at the very least, slows units WAY-DOWN!!
that have this issue.
It is almost impossible to remove by
"conventional methods" and the so-called
"removal-tools" aren't...They make the problem worse!
It's a new problem that has surfaced world-wide.
As of this date, only other 2-sites have
posted pointers that actually FIX!! the problem.
And none of these is presented in a simpler
"lay-persons" format...Something even I could understand.
My method, although non-coventional...Is Fred-Flintstone simple!
And absolutely effective, as it completely removes
the offending program (rootkit) and restores full-functionality
(operational-speed) that each unit had, prior to the problem.
Folks with a low "geek" rating can be sucessful
in safely engaging this removal process.
(Look who came-up with the fix. :-)
I believe it to be a worthy post here within
these forums, since so many of us have become
so very computer-dependant.
For me, it's not just merely my portal to the world
as I search for more car-related knowledge.
My intent would be for someone that's a bit
"more connected" with the appropriate sites
to actually copy it and then
post it on one of the more relavent sites.
Since I don't know how to submit this myself.

So....Should I post it...
As my Christmas Present, to the world?

This stuff doesn't use the internet
or e-mail as it's conduit.
Doesn't use the modem either
to enter effected computers.
Actually a firewall does not give you
any immunity whatsoever.
Ditto having that other-brand that says "not a PC"...
I've already had to remove this bug from
several "Non-PC's".
So I guess you "not-a-PC" guys aren't immune
to everything after all!
This bug can destabilize and even crash yours
just as easy as anything else....
It's not that kind of bug !
Perhaps your confidence...Is misplaced.
Thats' O.K....I can't spell either !
And I don't write code,
except the most primative and elemental types.

Hint...
People actually PAY money for this/these products
(100's of thousands in the first 3-months, worldwide),
go home and stick into their computer themselves !!!
So much for your firewall...
Manufacturer then pulls rabbit out of hat,
flashs a completely unexpected "elula"
on screen that they MUST! accept...
Or nothing on the disk is accessable !!
Manufacturer presents subject-matter as "benign"
and of no possible detriment...
Nothing could be farther from the truth !!!
It's a "rootkit", as mentioned earlier.
It's primary defence-mechanism...Is stealth!
The first time I bumped into this (I knew something was there!)
I threw everything I could at it...And found NOTHING!
Tried again, using more "creative" tactics...This time I found it!
Tried standard removal tactics that works on most bugs...
It just stuck it's tongue out at me...And then it dug-in deeper!
That's when I pulled off the gloves...
And got down to business!
About 4-hours later, I had found a effective tactic,
then cut-and-streamlined it down to the
minimums that would still be effective
then translated into Plain English...
For guys like myself !
The most complicated parts of the finished process are...
#1...Cut and paste 4-different lines.
#2...Use what is "normally" one of the most dangerous
command-lines anyone can use on any computer
and then actually use a "search" function within it.
#3...Do all this after pressing one of the LEAST USED keys...
one time (even for techs)!

The recall "fix" was to make the rootkit easier to find, NOT to remove it.
A:
Obviously...One of 3-possibilities prevails here.
#1...Everyone under-estimates just how dangerous
this issue is. Nor the breadth and magitude of it's reach.
Do you really think this will be the end
of this type of crap-ware? Somehow...
I think it's just the tip of the iceberg.
#2...I'm either "preaching to the choir" or
this is simply falling on dead-ears.
#3...It's simply a matter best sumitted
to another forum.
For the sake of political-correctness...
Let's just say it's "Door Number 3".
Done...Submitted elsewhere.
Merry Christmas to All !
