Ooooh, Oil at the Cam Lobes....

General Chat

Q:

Welp, the boy was under the 510 again today. Got the clutch set up, dropped the driveshaft off over a IEDLS to be stretched 2 1/4", andactually got the starter and stuff installed....so we did the first power-on check, and the starter works, the lights appear to be functional, and compression looks darned good.
Did the crankey-crank, got oil at the cam lobes, so probably tomorrow after we blank off all the vacuum lines there might be a fire off smoke check.
Guess the Opel will have to donate it's battery for the primary checking and etc...
He got all jazzed when the starter worked. Ooooh, Ahhhh! LOL

Thats great Tony!
Your son is a fine young man ! Sharing our time and knowledge of many things means sooo much. I'm patiently waiting, and incrementally showing my own sons how to care for "their" Zs.
So the boy installed his own starter motor after he set up the clutch disc & pressure plate? I'll bet his expression and the look in his eyes, listening to his very own mechanical orchestration ............priceless.
How cool ! (:D)

Excellent ! My 2 boy's like messing with cars as well .
I fear the" hands on" thing is being lost with a generation of IT grads.
Gecha hands dirty fellas.
A:

Awesome man, that parental bonding. I wish my 10 year old step-son was more interested in cars as I am. So, I'm holding out for my 2 1/2 old lad. He already can say "Datsun vrooom"! LOL!

I smell what you are cooking with that one!
My first real car work was also a clutch deal, on a 2.0 Capri. Then Bondo around the wheel wells LOL J I am grateful pop was super handy with mechanics. He tried to always get us going on the right track & approach. Actually he was a Photogrammetric opti-mechanical one. Whatever, he was versatile!

My two year old son can say, "Z car, Vrooom!" LOL. Priceless I swear I haven't pushed car craziness, but he's a total motorhead. Is that totally typical of two-year old boys? I think it must be, but it's pretty amazing to watch him turn EVERY toy into some sort of vehicle. I hope it lasts.

Alex, when my son was still in his mother's womb, she would stand in the garage and as I revved the engine, he would kick her in the stomach! LOL! I of course would get yelled at and promptly told to "STOP"!

Fun, fun, fun. My Zach says " Blue Z car broken. Daddy fix it.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:

Yea, How cool is nino. At the ZCCIV xmas party nino opens a present and it is a roll of quaters stuffed in what looked like a seat support or some cut section off an early Z. most kids would taken the Q's and tossed the rest. But not nino. What a cool kid.

While driving around in the 73 Black Shark, he would sit in his little four-point harness kiddie seat ,and say 'Dad, make it make the Z-Car sound!"
I said "What sound is that?"
He starts snapping his head back into the seatback while simultaneously making the Triple Mikuini Sound of "Wooooock! Woooooock! Woooooock!"
Did I mention the car had a super-lightweight flywheel?
Hehehehehehehehe!

Replaced the alternator and waterpump today. Ran some fuel lines to the fuel pump from a gas can on the ground out front of the car.
Fired it off---straight off the manifold...
BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
He began jumping around and dancing and "woo hoo"ing.
Apparently he's quite tickled that the car runs now.
And mom is pretty impressed, too! LOL

You have an Opel? I used to drive a Manta 1900cc. Great engine, most of the time. Made the Z's seem like a Caddy! NK

1970 opel Manta donated by the original owner who traded a 1964 Red Mustang Convertible in for it new off the lot in October of 1969!!!
Have all the registration and paperwork dealing with the car from the time he got it, till he stopped registering it and let it sit and degrade in his backyard from 1987 till presently...
Rough, but complete. I figure it's a hoot to drive if nothing else. But that's for another time.
