I'm having bad thoughts.

Q:

My S30 is VERY rough on my back (I'm not as young as most of you guys, girls and guys who think they're girls or girls who think they're guys, for that matter). My S30 would not be the same without the suspention I have so, I'm not gonna go back to stock.

It has a little rust under the doors in the usual spots and such so, I'm not 100% happy with selling it whole. I know I can get more back from all the parts then selling her whole.
I still have plenty of new parts that I bought for my other 76 that will be sold real soon (EvilInside is buying the gold 76). Then there's some used performance parts I scored from deals and yards. Body seals, Coilovers, Illuminas and such. Tons of stuff, REALLY....
I'm thinking to part her out. Suspention, brakes and body parts would be up for grabs if I do this. I would be saving the drivetrain (Engine, EFI, all turbo parts and LSD) to put in something else later on.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm an S30 guy down to the bone, I will be waiting for a sweet deal on a no rust 240Z oneday in my future (I hope).
If this happens (I'm 95% sure it will) Expect to see plenty of damn good parts being listed at the beginning of the year.

I can understand the complains about the harsh ride. I don't mind, but the chassis of my car does!
I'm very curious if anybody here has tried to run soft springs/shocks with relatively stiff anti-roll bars on the S30. This is what Colin Chapman did with his Lotus cars. (This is also the reason why English cars are so damn comfortable--including the Lotus Esprit!) Although this isn't ideal for modern race car applications, it might work out well for a road car!
All I see are guys running stiff springs/shocks that flex the S30's old chassis and giving little thought to the anti-roll bars. You can probably get away with running close to stock rate springs and OEM type shocks. You just need to find very beefy sway bars and reinforce the chassis to accept them. I wish I can say it'll work for a S30 chassis. I've never tried it on my car so I can't say . . . but theoretically, it should work beautifully.

IT IS TIME!!!!! come to the darkside Buy a ZXT!!!! s130 ( they are known to be softer especially with US spec springs, seats are comfier.).
on the other hand, maybe you just have the wrong seats in your car, with not enough support... im for one am not to pro 3rd gen Lude seats ( you have those right!) for me they are to tiny..
maybe trying better seats would help!

Na...... The world does not end when you climb out of a car and sell it. Turn it into something you can drive without discomfort, or turn it into another toy.
At some point I will sell my ZX, and more than likely spend every dime of it on the Chevy II, or a Camaro project I have waiting in the wings. In my case, sell the ZX and go drag racing, yeah that hurts!!! NOT!
Nothing wrong with a new beginning, don't look back and be sad, look ahead and get thrilled!!

I completely understand!!! I too am not one of the "spring chickens" around here and my 78 is pretty rough on my old bones at times and I do have a stock setup. I did replace all the bushings with a poly kit, installed new struts, new tires, new rack, etc....
I kind of agree with some of the others, just to hear the words that Pallnet is parting out his car is pretty harsh on the ears.
I will admit that I look at the ZX's and 300's more often than I used to and think about adding one to the herd, but I will always have the 280, even if my driving gets limited.
I don't think you will have any trouble selling your stuff if you decide too. Your reputation here is topnotch and everyone knows you stand behind your products.
Good luck!!!
I hope I beat you to that rust free 240 though..... just kidding!

Nah, you're only old when you admit it. Just change the springs & perhaps get a modern seat with good support. My father in law was complaining about the new Lexus in the family. You need an engineering degree to operate it. He said "I just want to drive the thing." I'm going to let him have a spin in the 78 once it's fixed up. That way he'll experience a real connection to the road.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:

Sucks to hear Pallnet but I understand. It's not my back but my knee's, I've injured them in the past and getting in and out at times gives me a pretty good burn in my right knee.
If you do this Please, email me use the address above or: matt@regiona.org I want coilovers, illuminas, one of your fuel rails possibly with injectors. Cash is waiting

What kind of struts do you have on there? If they are adjustable, have you turned them down to their softest setting?
If not, you could try finding a set of good adjustable struts (I have the Tokico illuminas (but have not installed them yet)) that are compatible with your set up and try that. I know you said you aren't going back to stock (neither would I), but if you don't have the adj. ones and/or havent tried the setting, try that.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:

Pallnet,
You don't know me but I learned a lot from your posts over the last couple of years, THANKS...
Several have implied it but I thought I'd come right out and say it:
If it isn't fun, don't do it.
I'm 60 and don't enjoy driving my '73 every day anymore. But it's awsome once or twice a week. I bought a Cadillac Escalade EXT for my daily driver and it's great! Smooth ride, heated seats, plenty of power, etc.
I have my rust free '70 sitting in my drive way with an 83 ZXT engine and transmission ready to go in it as soon as I finish my wife's '55 T-bird. I'll never sell any of my project cars because my kids and grandkids have already claimed them when I have no use for them anymore. My oldest son gets the '73, my daughter gets the '70, my youngest son gets the 1930 Model A (Stock), and my two grandsons willl have to fight over the T-Bird, unless I live long enough to do the '34 Ford 1-ton truck I've been thinking about.

Anyway, Life is too short to not enjoy it.
Good luck on your hunt for the '70.
Dave B.

creeping rust... no fun. but i sold mine whole, and too are looking for a little/no rust 240.

That’s part of why I drive my 2000 Altima in the winter. It's brown, not very fast, a very vanilla and boring car. But it's quit & pretty smooth for it's class. The ultimate fly under the radar car. 100% different from the red Z where every body is looking at ya.
Yes I have thought about trying Monroe Sense-a- tracks. Running poly bushings stock springs and illumines set at 1. It is getting more broken in though…

Sorry to hear that Pete, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Atleast youll still have a RWD L-series powered Nissan to play with, I imagine an L6 240SX is about as close as you can get to an old Z without actualy having one.

Is not just the T that makes the ZXT, if you ever got carried in a wheel barrel with a solid wheel playing as a child you remmeber the feeling.. I'm older that you getting fatter n semi disabled due to back injuries n my camaro ride like that thanks to an, self inflicted, up grade in the rear suspension alone, the . is the zxt rides very softly n turn better, "downgrade" yours or get a ZXT. Peace.
Have you shared the left lane today?

Well for those who don't know. Here's a link to my mods list on the car right now. There is still plenty in the garage stored and will be sold as well.
This will give you guys an idea of what you might be seeing sold by me starting in January.

Hey Pete - did you invest in a good set of seats? Some good Miata seats did wonders for my rough ride.

well that sucks, but let me be the first to express interest in some parts..namely the bump steer spacers, illuminas, ZG flares, and side mirrors. there are several parts in the drivetrain I would like a shot at but understand you want to keep that intact...if not let me know!
too bad really...all always thought your car was really tough and intimidating looking
A:

Ok
I will save this thread so that I can let you guys know when the parts will be for sale.
The drivetrain will stay with me, no secrets getting out from there my friend. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA
I will be selling the upgrade/performace parts I have in my garage first. Then I will start pulling the S30 apart.
Sorry Sean. I'm just gonna do what is set. I will have L28ET power in one of my cars so, I'm not going anywhere. Not to mention that I will still be making parts.
