I owned a Mustang once, and this just isn't right. I feel violated, and it's not even my Mustang. Where's the 427 Cobra Jet, where's the dual quads, where's the slam your back into the trunk thrust, NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!! Wrong.

As much sense as a V-8 in a Z IMHO, still interesting though. It does not have to make sense only torque and hp. Gas is big bucks over there, then again that could gobble it up quick.

People swap V8s in their Zs over here because V8s are cheap and parts are easy to come by, in Japan I imagine Ford V8 parts arent cheap or easy to get.

I LOVE IT. I am tired of seeing all these American V8's in Z cars not for some Turbo Japanese Loving for American muscle cars. I want to see more!

I wouldnt be surprised if thats a 1000hp turbo, look at the size of it! and a single turbo setup on an RB26 always means big power. damn.....

See, putting a beefy V-8 in a light Z makes sense, to me. It's an "upgrade" for those of us that love the mad power you can get out of a V-8. Now what they did to that Mustang, I consider a downgrade, as it's a smaller motor, in a much heavier car. Mustangs belong with a 302,351, 390, 400, 427 CobraJet, you know, BIG! I say kudhos to the owner who obviously is a rare owner of a early 70's Mustang in Japan, but definately keep it's heart pure!

This is the second old muscle car that I've seen with a Jap engine in it. It's sad, although I bet it's probably really fast, and interesting to see... Still sad though... The other car I've seen was a 65 Chevelle. They put a twin turbo supra engine in it. Now THAT looked awkward. There was way to much space in the engine compartment around it. The mustang install actually looks pretty good.... but still sad.

true dat. hot mustang + ricer exhaust = me being sad. although, this mustang is pretty beat up, and it is only a mustang (i know there are former f-body owners around here). if it were a camaro, now that would be something to cry about.

How long will it be before someone takes a VQ56 from a Titan, Hotrods it, and sticks it into an RS/SS Camaro Convertible and shows up at Super Chevy Sunday????
Would a VQ56 be a "better" swap in this case? Who knows.
THIS is neat! I saw a Ford Falcon Ute (Uh..."Ranchero"--mid-late 60's boxy version) down in San Pedro's Impound Lot converted to use an L28 with a Five Speed, which worked out really well, too! Great Gas Mileage, more than enough power for pulling the payload in the bed, and the option of using a modern powertrain without all the pitfalls of old technology!
ALL those "Muscle Cars" usually were available with an Inline 6. They are ALL OVER SoCal being driven by grannies since new.
Mustang, Camaro...hell even the CORVETTE was offered with a Six at one time in their production cycle.
Performance does not come from a cylinder count!

haha, for americans in the 60's and 70's, power definately did come from cylinder count. i'd rather have a chevy 454 then any turboed jap engine.

Oil hogging pig if you ask me!
Had a 72 Vette with a BBC in it.
To be honest, riding along in JeffP's 280ZXT, or Steve Mitchell's Z31 is far more exhilirating than the Vette ever was.
Been there, done that!
As the Vette Tapered off on the top end, both of the cars had the same kind of acceleration feel and as the car accelerated through the gear it actually PULLED HARDER!
I like that feeling better than the feeling of the Vette.
And the oil consumption of BOTH of those cars wasn't anywhere near what the 454 Vette was....

I think it's great.
I especially like how offensive it is to the hard core domestic purists. I've been following this thread on other forums, and I just love to see the reaction of people.
Judging by the size of that turbo, I am sure this Mustang is plenty faster than it ever was stock.
People say, "It doesn't look right" , or "It doesn't sound right", or whatever. (YAWN)
Conformity is boring. I can appreciate the fact that the car is unique, and it gets a reaction out of people.

Not my cup of tea........
I like my Mustangs with Ford V8's in them.......289 - 460 doesn't matter to me, as long as it was made by Ford. I prefer the big motors in those model 'Stangs though.

true, it is unique, but i don't think it matters if it can pull harder then a mustang could have stock. as far as i'm concerned, swapping an engine is a huge mod. soooo, i don't think its fair to compare a highly modified (albeit with a jap engine) to a stock mustang. give me a stock '68 mustang with the same amount of money it cost to swap in that engine, and i'd say some serious power could be made. i'm assuming certain things about the jap engine though, since i don't know much about them. but then again, you can make any car go super fast with enough money, so i guess it doesn't really matter.

Heheheh, I love it! That is one MONSTER turbo.
A:
Remember THE CAR IS IN JAPAN. You cant just go to a local shop and get some cheap Ford V8 parts, it's gonna cost ya.
I've never saw a single turbo RB26 that didnt make a lot of power, 400hp at the crank would be a very low estimate. Those engines arent that expensive in Japan, for the money I dont think you would be able to to make it faster with a Ford V8.

^^^ agree. and I think its awesome.
I would much rather have that in my mustang than a huge V8 that gets the same power at 10MPG
