Have you seen the price of models lately?

Hi folks,
Okay, I know some, maybe even alot, of you got your interest in cars the same way I did, working on models. Does the term "funny fur" bring back memories. I used to win trophies for the models I built. And come to think of it, I still do!!!!! Same principle, just bigger and more expensive parts.
Junky, crappy, no detail models are going for $15. I paid $1.69 growing up in the 60s. A $1.69 and you could actually learn, to some extent, how a car worked by assembling the model. I remember a 69 Corvette model that had metal coil springs for the front suspension and the suspension worked just like the real thing. Back then they were rather complex and detailed models. I was disappointed when I saw the junk that is now being sold. What a shame and a rip. I've posted this before, if all you "old fart" types want a blast to your childhood check this out. Now, THOSE were models!!!!

After YORGO's post I haven't been thinking too clearly - thank Whatever that I only have 9 more hours to work and it's quiet so far.
Actually, a couple of those models look very much like a couple of Polish girls I used to know 30 years ago.
No Polish jokes here - one is a doctor and the other an engineer and either would give Miss USA, World or even Playboy Playmates a hard time placing in a beauty pagent.
Eastern European women - when the genes are right, are very very right.
That's a gene pool we all would want to take a dip in.
Ok - someone get norm to come up with some gloom & doom fact we can all argue about so I can get my mind on track. These cold showers are murder.

I remember those days.... I built a few of those. One of my favorites was the Little Red Wagon. Dodge Pickup with Van front end and a Hemi.

I have a friend that's pretty into models. I went over to his house and he was showing them to me and he says "touch the carpet"... I think to myself, "wtf, carpet?"... Sure enough the "carpet" was all fuzzy. He puts braided steel fuel lines in, and spark plug wires, brake lines... He really goes all out. Weird.

I remember when the engines had piston details and the heads had combustion chamber and rocker arm details as well. Of course, back then there were a lot of warped body parts and a lot of sink marks too. Some give and take with the modern models. Just like everything else, prices have gone way up. Didn't gas cost like 25 cents a gallon back then?

Peanut,
I worked in a gas station and it was 19 cents a gallon. When it went up to 21 cents, people started yelling at me!!! I was 12.
Man I wish I'd kept those models! Good memories there.

I think models are so expensive because they don't sell as many now as they used to. The model section at Wal-Mart and other stores is dwindling here. I probably built 300 or so models in my life. Now all kids wanna do is sit in front of a tv and play video games. Hard to get them to build anything with thier hands. I try to pull my boy away from the tv as soon as I get home in the evening. I had him helping me clean my Swastika wheels yesterday. We are also building a batmobile model right now. He's 6 now so I am starting him off early. Paul
