General Chat

Q:

ok, i have a 67 vette engine (camel hump oval port heads) and some full length hooker headers. im tryign to find som eof those shorty style header plugs, ive come up with this
14mm Thread, 3/8'' Reach, 13/16'' Hex, Gasket Seat - Projected Tip
Shorty Resistor Version of 111-137, .035'' Nomial Gap, 8/pkg of 437S
i was just curious if any of you knwo what reach i should be using in this engine. or if this plug might be too hot. thanks.

yeah, sorry forgot to mention. those measurments are accel plugs. i think they are th eonly manufaturer that make the shorty plugs. i was just wondering about the cylinder depth since they are offered in a few dif fflavors. and the heat of the plug i should run (im using a mallory hi-fire ignition)

The OE plug for that engine was an AC (R)44 w/ gap of 0.035. This is a 3/8" reach, 14mm thread plug. (Ref.='71 AC catalog from my archives). It says nothing about a projected tip like your info. You need to do the research for an equivalent shorty plug.
I believe the same NGK reg. plug is a B-6 but I'm not sure.

im not sure what a projected is. does that mean it could possibly sit lower into the cylinder? i suppose i will go look into it further. so much easier on non-modified engines, just look it up and order the part. blah. thx btw.

I know that shorty plugs in the above size are avail. for chain saws, etc. but not in the "44" heat range; only in the "45" heat range, which is one step hotter, or "42" which is 2 steps colder. Just put "CS" infront of the # for the AC plug. Probably only an AC products distributor would stock these. While you are there, get an AC oil filter wrench for your cars.
