My Ford F150 seems to get ~ 16.5- 17 no matter what I do.

our diesel F250 gets around 16 in the city and 20 highway if you take it easy...plus it will pull just about anything...and run forever

Z1, you are right. It's all about the Toyotas in this department.
The SWB reg cab Toyota 4x4 p/u with the 22r, up through 1994 got around 23/24 mpg. My 91 Toy 4x4 got just over 24 mpg on the highway. I'm not sure about 95 on up as they started putting the 2.7L I4 in them.
What about the comparable year Nissan trucks with the KA in them?
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

Actually, I would look at a late 80's early 90's Mazda B series. I had one in high school that got great gas mileage. If I remember right it was anywhere from 25-30 mpg. Of course it's a 4 cylinder, but still a good truck.

My brother had Cherokee with the 4.0. It got 19mpg no matter what he did. Driving around town, cross country, off roading, etc... always 19mpg.

Not to much concerned about engine size, just a really a dependable trucks that gets really good gas mileage. so I guess im leaning more towards the toyotas then..

what do you want in a truck besides gas mileage, are you going to be pulling something or hauling something cause if you just need 4 wheel drive for winter driving consider a subaru awd or anything in awd.

I didn't think about that, the older subarus are awesome. If you are however looking for a truck for the hauling ability, toyotas are nice, but I think the B series would get better mileage,
