Q:
1.) How much more power does a 105 amp alternator make than a stock 240z alt?
2.) If my car dies at idle when i have my lights on, could that be a symptom of a lack of power from the alternator? at anything above idle, it usually runs fine.
3.) If I have a 280zx distributor for my 73, and i wanted to install an electronic ignition system, would i get the setup for the 79-83? because on motorsport, there are 2 different items, one for the latter years, and one for the early...

1. What does your stock '73 put out? The only way to verify a specific component is to 'full field" it to verify output.
If you want to speculate: Stock is around 55amps the 'other' is 105...that equals a difference of 50 amps, (theoretical full field).
2. Your car and accessories should run on battery the only for a short time. If the car dies have you checked the battery output, (AVR test). Maybe your idle is set so low that any draw on the system causes the engine to stall. Maybe the reference voltage is so low as to make for a weak output.
An AVR test will reveal all.
3. If you are using a ZX distributor with the ignitor box what are you trying to accomplish by adding "electronic ignition"? Better switching? Longer firing of the spark, multiple spark? Usually a good coil upgrade is all that is necessary for most street applications, (SU's, Mild cam), with the ZX distributor.

Standard alternators for all Z's up to year 84 was 50 amps, turbo's 60 amps. Starting in 84 they started with 60 amps in all until the TT's came out then it went to 65 amps. The 105 amp alternators are usually put in when stereo systems that demand the extra amperage is installed, or extra lighting.
