When I turned 15 my dad bought me a 280zx that was FAR from flawless as a project to work on until I turned 16. I loved the car, working on it and learned a lot about Z cars from the experience. I ended up selling my precious 280zx after a year of driving it as the floor boards were rusting out and I simply didn't have the resources to fix it. After a year long search I just purchased my new Z32 300zx. It's a great starting point for a project car, I have a Daily Driver as well, so I can put the Z32 out of comission as long as needed. The best part, I get to actually work on my car again and learn about it! It needs work but I'm looking forward to the project I have ahead of me.

Nice cars JML77280Z! For some reason your 86 looks really mean, I love it.
cjh1452000 - what part of Michigan do you live in? It seems like I have seen your 280 before, could be mistaken though.

My Project Car
My Parts Car
After driving my parents old 60 something short wheel based land rover and my sisters 82 Toyota corolla during highschool it became time for me to purchase my first car. I saw what must have been a 260z 2+2 in a car park and thought it looked alright. Then my dad took me to see a series 1 240z that has been parked out in someones yard for the past 10 years. The smooth lines of the orange coupe and the sexy dash had me hooked. I purchased 2 2+2's (not realising the differences in the shape at the time) with the intention of a quick respray and turn it into a daily driver. Well after a trip to the Z nationals that year my daily driver project quickly turned into a $30000 show car.
While waiting for my project car to hit the road a white 260 came up for sale in town, only $1500 AUS. It was in failry good condition but needed a few little things for a roadworthy. I had been waiting 4 years to drive a z car and i thought this would be a great daily driver.
My Dailey Driver
So after 5 years in the shed my money was running short and I really wanted to drive a nice 2 seater coupe. I was looking at borrowing the money I needed to finish my project when this 73 240z came up for sale for around the same sort of money I was looking at borrowing.
So now the project car has been scaled back a little, but it will still be a very nice, rust free, 260z. It just won't have the $8000 engine and the rear discs etc.
I'm currently working on a new website, I will post the link when its done!

Thanks for the kind words, but any Z is beautiful in my book. Mine is a good 10 footer, any closer and the signs of spending 25 years in the rust belt show. Both pictures were actually taken in the same location, the 2005 convention in Syracuse. There were some gorgeous Z's there and I was embarrassed to have entered the judged portion of the show since I was the only one showing any rust. To me I was representing the daily drivers of the world LOL!

Z doctor,
I'd share that credit with you and everyone else who posted. It is kind of wild isn't it. I like seeing the cars that go with the names that I've seen so many times. I am a little disappointed that more did not post their "work in progress" cars. I like seeing those photos. However, the "finished to perfection" photos were not too hard on the eyes either. I hope people keep posting even if they do get a new Z car of the month.

Bought "Rusty" in Chicago in April 2004 and drove it to South Flori-duh. I am the proud third owner. I still email with the original owner and the second owner and have great history on the car.
I am doing a performance refreshment as a DIY project and enjoy autocrossing, drag racing, and going to local z-car club meets when the Z is not on stands in my garage.
Always addressing rust, body work, removed 280Z bumpers, installed euro 240Z front and rear bumpers, baddog frame rails, tokico struts and lowering springs, rebuilt 5-speed transmission (keeps breaking), master urethane bushing set, MSA front strut tie bar, removed the AC, MSA dual chrome tiped glass packs (no cat), rear 240Z strut mount insulators, 15x7 Rewinds and Kumho tires.
Recently serviced injectors, blew out fule lines and fuel rail, new fuel filter and installed the G3 fuel filter. Need to turn the key to see if it will at least start again!
Thanks for looking.

I'm a little late to the party, but here ya are:
I was at a junkyard looking at one 260Z when a guy came up and said he had one of those for sale. went to his house out in the boonies, and, to make a long story shorter, came home with this 260:
started working on it, mostly bodywise. At one point, it looked like this:
And after a LOT of elbow grease, it now looks like this:
Next mod is installing the 82 turbo motor I just acquired!
