I assume you mean highest recorded top speed and not top speed at the end of 1/4 mile?
TonyD probably knows. He's our resident salt flat racer.

Curious how my photos show up on Z31.com....
That grey twin turbocharged small block chevy powered Hilborn Injected 240 Z does not go very fast. And has absolutely NO Land Speed Records to it's credit.
POTENTIALLY it could go fast, but fact of the matter is in almost 10 years I don't think that thing has broken 160mph at ElMirage...
The 76 280Z 2+2 with a N/A six is faster. It's taken 17 Land Speed Records between ElMirage, Muroc, and Bonneville. Speed of 173+mph with six scored cylinders and blowing by like a mad dog!

While Jun may have gone fast, there is one "full bodied Z" that has gone faster, I just don't know the name or the class to check my record book.
I think Stringfellow was the owner, and it was well in excess of the Jun Car.
It was also an Altered S30!
Put a Keith Black Hemi pumping 1100+ HP out into something as aerodynamic as a brick, and believe it or not, it will go VERY fast!

Yeah I dont think it counts for fastest Z car saying "My uber fast car with X awesome motor is so badas$" when the same motor could be put into literally anything and it'll be fast. I think for all intents and purposes, I reckon it should be limited to a Z with a Z engine for fastest True Z car.

my engine is safe from blowing because my speedo only goes to 80 mph and that would be the top speed of my zx. right??

Ive maxed out the speedo on my Z with rpms left to spare and I bet most if not all Zs in good working condition could do the same...

Not stock S30's. Remember, pre '79 Z cars had 160mph speedo's. Tony's can go faster than that, but his isn't stock and I'll be he's not using the stock speedo anyway!

For the record, most of the V8 Z's up there running are SLOWER than ours with the L6 and a .040" Bored Stock-Stroked L28...

Here is a shot I found of the DEVIL Z:
209mph in the "Small Engined" class, and 258.324 in the larger engine class. Man, he set four records in four different classes the year I didn't go to Bonneville... Man, that sucks!
They set the record at El Mirage at 210.329mph....
