Q:

dare i say.... what the 350 should of been?
esp if they were "returning to the s30"
looks like a "modern" 240 if you ask me

not saying i dont like the z33 but i deffinatly see this bmw as more af a"modern" s30 than the z33 though the z33 is still a Z and a good one i suppose

just my opinion

Wow. I can only imagine the howling from all the 350Z bashers if this had been the "reborn Z." Price tag over $50,000 and some very funky styling would certainly have been better received than Nissan's effort, now, wouldn't it?
PS: Nice edit, 24.
Let's add this most attractive view:

Z4 is actually kinda weird looking. That angle isn't bad, but in person the car is just a bit fugly.. I prefer the 350Z anyday.

thats what it shoulda looked like...

that car and the 350z all look a bit bulky when compared to 300zx
imo the 350 is a new line of z, doesn' compare to 300zx, it is nice, but it just doesn't compare

its mainly just the nose that I don't like, the lines on the side are weird but forgiving.

not saying anyhtign bad about the Z33 or any Z for that matter
i mean i used to think the z31 were the uglyiest Z ever but i now think they look very cool look alot "newer" to me than an 80s car.
actully one of my favorit looking cars now and the z33 i hated it at fist but am liking it more and more
though i do think this bmw is much more of a "modern" looking s30 than the z33 which was supposebly going back to the s30 roots but all is good
and i think if the wheels on the bmw were diff maybe not so much diff but smaller maybe it would look better - i know the new thing is try and get 43in wheels on your car and if you cool 45in out back but i just think the wheels are a touch to big

It's a small FR platform with a similar roofline, that's where the similarities end. I love the gearboxes on the z3 and z4's though.

I really don't think it would have mattered what the new Z looked like, because some people would have whined and bitched no matter how stylish, light or heavy, fast or slow, loud or quiet it was. I think that, with the exception of the front end/suspension issue and it being ever so slightly underpowered (but easily fixed), the 350 is a nice car. Opinions are like a$$holes, eh-body has one!
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

the new cayman is totally a copy of the roofline and rear quarters just minus the circle z emblem

are people still upset that the 350z didn't turn out like they wanted. Quit whining. Its a great car. The aftermarket supports it well, it is just a great thing you know. jeez, get over it.

I'm sure people said the samething with the 300zx came out. Oh the 300zx is a new line of Z, doesn't even compare to the 240z/260z/280z/280zx.
While I agree they could have done a better styling job with the 350z it's still not bad. My only thing is that it's too heavy for the power it has.

DAS280ZX,you are correct.
whether you like the looks or not,the 350Z is a strong performer...and an excellent road/track car right out the box.
i myself am just glad that Nissan is making sportscars for the US market again.
If all were equal, none would be strong.
