Q:
While looking up IC efficiency I came across a lot on water injection. Has anybody used this set up on a l28et? It seems relatively simple to install and seems to be very effective. I was reading about a guy who made his own set up and was running 16 psi boost with no IC. The water injection was dropping his intake air temp 90+ deg.

What about a water cooled intercooler?

I have a friend who has water injection on his L28TET. he used the headlight washer motor out of a Z31 and a few other parts, he's running 16psi with no IC, it works. Until i saw this setup i was leary of doing this to my car, but i might.
He posts on hybrid Z, don't know his user account, but they might have more info there.

Sorry to be one of those guys that just says search but there are MANY threads about this if you search the archives...really way more information than im able to give you and there are some really good discussons about the subject.
Basically some people think the water turns the head to swiss cheese and some think its totally fine. Perconally i think that water/meth injection is a good idea IF THE SYSTEM IS SET UP PROPERLY. IE. high pressure pump (not a windshield washer pump) good nozzle(s) and proper control of the system (megasquirt or other reliable control system).
Ultimately you'll have to research and decide for yourself.
EDIT: check out this company for examples of some good systems

Cool stuff, and its been used since WWII in aviation. I think its good technology if used properly.

set up perfectly...great way for running more boost and preventing detonation
a ghetto fab, i wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, sure u could make one for cheap, but would u be willing to risk your engine in the process if u fubar it?
i don't think so

Could not agree with this statement more!

Really makes you wonder why manufacturers haven't tried this method in production for improving emissions and horsepower. The only worry I have is what happens on a cold day when the water is too cold and it ends up cracking something?

wouldnt suprise me if you anwsered your first question with your second question. lol

now think about it, we have some morons that forget to put gasoline in their cars on time and get stranded (me included), now imagine an engine with water injection to improove power, fuel economy and emmisions and you ran out of water? -- you will detonate that engine to death, plus the controls systems are an added cost on top of the car cost. However it is used in power generation because they want extended life from parts, better emmsions, and fuel economy and there an additional cost of 1,000,000 bucks to improve 1-2 percent efficiency is worth it because they will burn more in fuel otherwise.

OLD(S) NEWS.
Early, mid '60-s GM Olds F-85 had turbo + water injection. We would just use w/s washer fluid because it was much cheaper than adding methanol to the water reservoir to keep it from freezing. Ho hum. Just another history lesson.
Check the archives.
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.
And, now we are historic.

I'm sure that they have nver done it factory because they would have so many people blow thier motors from running out of water and then realizing what they did, fill the tank, bring the car back and say its running funny. They have to design cars to be idiot proof now. How many standard transmissions do you think are out there that never get flushed for the life of the car, same with autos. Probably way more than you would think.

OEM DID do it! Back before Ralph Nader made the car companies realize that nobody should be required to read and heed the owner's manual.
But this is par for the course here...

search and read. As has been sated, stay away from water injection, and use methonal. I tried straight water for awhile, and my head wasn't swiss cheese, but there was pitting with less than 5000 miles on it. The pitting wasn't there before as I had ported the head and exhaust side was polished, and intake was smooth. 5000 miles later, it wasn't. My car gets torn apart fairly often and I figured I'd test what everyone was saying in old posts. THEY WERE RIGHT! lol...I knew they would be, but sometimes you've gotta check things out for yourself. My head was salvageable as the porting done on it first time around wasn't very extensive. I had went all out race on the head when swapping away from the stock cam and valvetrain so everything was able to be cleaned up. Just my .02
Lastly, if you're going to try a kit, I'd suggest the following one.

We installed on on my partners car and he loves it to death. He went from running C16 to 91 pump gas and hasn't stopped saving money. (yes, the c16 was required for the timing and boost pressures he was running)
