Q:
Hi all,
I am going to Japan on Christmas and will be there for about two weeks.
While I am over there, I am planning to buy the "Fairlady" fender emblems at the Z parts shop in Japan.
Any recommendations as to what other kinds of Z parts I should consider getting while in Japan? I know that some old school JDM Z-parts are not readily available in the U.S.
Thanks for your suggestions.

They are not readily available in Japan either.....although it's easy (not cheap) to get parts through Yahoo Japan Auctions.
I know....I've made 29 trips to Japan in the last 8 years.
Suggestions to bring back with you.....Gnose parts and hood hinges, Kameari engine parts, used Watanabe rims and new center caps, Speed Star wheels, turbo headers.
Good luck

I wouldnt bother with parts, buy full cars... When I was in Japan if I had the cash to ship cars back I would of bought 10 of em. For example my friend got an AWD R32 Sykline turbo for $8,000 AU ($6,000US) including shipped to australia, on the road, fully complied. I saw many others like Z31s, Z32s etc all for dirt cheap. They can't drive them there anymore because of the emission laws not to mention the congested roads.
You'll find buying seperate parts and including postage (unless you can get a deal with an airline) is going to cost way too much to ship lots of parts when for a few k more you could get an entire car. Just my opinion...

DOHC head for the L-series? What the point when you can get an RB-series engine?

Try the Nissan Parts Distribution Warehouse. DON'T GO TO THE DEALER! The dealer parts idiots will just call the Nissan Parts Distribution Warehouse and the usual answer will be "your car is too old"
Specialty shops may have the parts you want, but at a price.
General speed shops (Autobachs, Yellow Hat) will usually only have catalog special order for older cars like your Z.
Whatever you do, know your application and specifications. Most parts places are "car specific" and if your car's not listed, the answer will be "your car is too old and it's not listed" I once spent 15 minutes trying to buy a trim plate for my car stereo because "it wasn't listed" and got it only after "understanding" that if it didn't fit, I couldn't bring it back for a refund because I insisted on buying it.
Bring lots of money because a lot of places don't accept plastic, and those that do usually tack on a 4-5% surcharge to cover the bank processing fee.
Good Luck!

Hey Sakijo, thanks for the advice. One of my friend in Japan told me that I shouldn't go to Red Stage and Blue Stage Nissan dealership.
I tried getting an old Cima (albeit Q45) emblems and told me that they don't have for the 1992 models.
Will definitely go along with Nissan Parts Distribution Warehouse.
I also might try RS Start Shop in Kawagoe (Saitama Pref) and see if they have any good parts available also.
I am going to Japan as a vacation and see some friends while I am there.

There's also an old Nissan place on the expressway between Tokyo Disney and Narita on the eastern side of the road. It's a long stretch of road and I can't remember the xexit number but they've got a ton of Skylines sitting out front.
Do a search on Google for shops in Japan and BTW, Eagle Yokota is no longer in business if you end up in Fussa.

Hey gogriz91,
Thanks so much for the info! :-)
I think I know the shop that you're talking about. I think it's on Keiyo Expressway/ Higashi-Kanto Expressway between the Narita airport and Tokyo.
For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the shop, but I've seen it on the "Nostalgic Hero" magazine.
I e-mailed Sakijo about the info and he mentioned couple of places and might try them out too.

Hey no worries and that's the place on the Higashi/Kanto. If you're around Fussa if you turn down Route 5 (I think it's Route 5 on the north end of the runway at Yokota) towards Shinjuku about 5-8kms down on the right is a Tanaka engineering shop. They've always got a couple of hot 180SX's/Silvia's and a Skyline or two being worked on and may be able to hook you up on a set of Watanabes.
NISMOFest at Fuji speedway is this coming weekend. Bummer you're not going earlier. I missed it while I was there mainly because I didn't even know they held one. I'm going to make it to one though eventually.
Someone just made a post on classiczcars.com with pics of Rocky Auto but they're in Aichi vice metro Tokyo. I'm pretty sure there's a nice Skyline shop in Yokohama or Yokosuka but I'd have to dig through the photo how-ya-doin' on classiczcars to get the details on where the place is.

Hey gogriz91,
Thanks again for the info.
I've read about Rocky Auto in Nostalgic Hero magazine. I think I may make day trip from Tokyo to Nagoya area (depending on what vicinity the nearest train station may be) I know it's about 1.5 hours by bullet train from Tokyo to Nagoya.
The shop in Narita airport area is called "Biko Works" and they sell lots of Hakosukas and very few Ken-Mary GT-Rs. I've noticed few S30 and S130s as well. I think I might pass going there because it's not too convenient and I will be over in Gunma Prefecture (which by itself takes about 3 hours from Narita airport and one hour from Tokyo-by bullet train)
I will try and see the shop you mentioned in Fussa area.
Thanks! I appreciate your information.
