For DATSUN Lovers

General Chat

Q:

Hello all.
I rarely post in this forum, usually in the 350Z as that is what I own, but I track almost all the threads here and love the variety this forum offers. Anyway, I digress...
I have a question for Datsun lovers. When I was younger, like around 8-10 years old, my family drove around a Datsun Station Wagon that was my Dad's in the 70's. It was a wierd yellow color and had a black cloth interior. I am pretty sure it was released in the mid to late 70's, because it had been my Dad's car prior to him getting married in '77. Who can tell me what car that was? I found the Datsun 1000 online, and that may be it, but I was wondering if there were any other models that Datsun released as station wagons.
I actually want to buy one as a beater cause I liked the car, but I don't know what to look for.
Thanks
-Nolan

...And, where I should look for one? I doubt they are in high volume. I live in TN. Should I just check local listings?

was it something like this??
this is a 510 wagon, production years from 68 to 73, I think. you can pick themn up on the west coast for about $1000 a daily driver in running condition. expect to pay upwards of $3000 for one in good condition.

for a long time. I had a 67 wagon, that was a SRL-411 (SSS) version that I wish I still had. The 70s version as Mr. Dragon300zx and Mr. McAdam mentioned is indeed the 510 series as the 510 series started production in August of 1970. There were the 1300, 1600, and 1600sss flavors with the sss boasting 109 HP vs the standard 96hp.

The 510 does not look exactly like it. It may have been the 67 that MaxDoc mentioned. Although the 510 is sweet. I may look into getting one next spring. I don't need a winter beater because here in Nashville we don't have to winterize anything.
Anyways...keep the suggestions coming. I think it might be a fun restore. I will keep you guys posted on my search.
Thanks for all you guys help. I knew I could count on this site. Always do...!

I believe it was the 1600 wagon. Almost positive. What year did the 1600 wagon come out, and is the 1600 for the cc's the engine had?

Could be a 510, 610, 0r 710 Wagon, as they all had L-4's available.
The 810 was a Six.
All were available as Wagons (Estate Cars)---and a version of the 240 was contemplated as well!

wow...this is insanely helpful. I now know where to begin my search for one. As I sit here I really want one. They are extremely useful (like a pickup but covered) and have great personality.
I guess I will have to try and get in touch with my Dad to let me know what kind it was. He probably can't even remember.

Did they make a 210 wagon?

hatchback and wagon was available in 210 and KG110 (Skyline) as well...
Nissan made a ton of Station Wagons, if it had a four door option, chances are it was available in notchback or squarebacked (stationwagon) variant.
I like the four cylinder 71 Skyline Station Wagons, they have a killer look, and that G20 Four Cylinder is just enough of a one-off to make people go whadahellisdat?

Mid to late 70's would be either a 610 or a 710 (predisessors to the 510) They dicontinued the 510 after 73.
