Single Groove crank pulley

General Chat

Q:

Today after I made a few rails for orders, I took the time to play on my lathe. Cutting metal is so fun. Look at the pics below.
Stock pulley off of a 75.
Machined to a single groove pulley
It took all of about an hour to do but, it was not a chore at all.

I've often wondered would a hacksaw do the same trick.

The hacksaw would not give an even cut and not be as much fun.

Looks good.. I should learn how to do that... might give me something else to do...

Wish I had the equipment to build the fun things you do pallnet. One of these days... Of course being a mechanically inclined individual in a non mechanically inclined family I'm starting my tool collection from scratch and it's going very slowly.

During the winter i might hacksaw mine and bring it in to the lathe in school to clean up.
Did you machine that all off from the outside in or just cut it?

a hack saw and a file would get it just as clean.......if not cleaner

Cut from the inside after measuring and sheer off the outer ring. Then clean it up.

Now you are a funny guy arn't you. You really cant be serious, I like the finish it up with a file.
Tell you what, why dont you get together with Bubbles and build that killer engine. I am sure between the two of you, you would come up with the ultimate running engine.

is that a sneak peak of the new SDS mount?
A:

Bobby
That is the prototype that is running on my car right now. It's better then sliced bread when it comes down to it. I went from getting RPM ERRORS with RPMs over 3600 to slinging my engine up to 6500RPMs in the blink of an eye. Now don't get me wrong. The SDS mount that i bought from someone and was running on my car before worked great for a short while then it was nothing buy problems.
It's fixed now...

I have been running a 1 groove 240Z pulley (lathe job) on my 280 motor for two years now. The nice thing about a 240 pulley is, it is a smaller diameter that gives you an under drive effect, along with dropping about 3 lbs of rotating weight compared to the 2 groove 280 unit. Quick RPMs is the result.

I have been running a cut down 1975 Fairlady Z Pulley (solid, no dampener ring) since 1987. Makes retreiving dropped bolts easy, no honkin pulleys in the way! For the same reasons as CKelly, basically.
