How To: Pull ZXT Engine the easy way...

General Chat

Q:

Well it was very very cold out so climbing under and fumbling around with tools was not something i wanted to do. So with the use of the tractor which made it much easier to see the bottom of the vehicle. Just did this to unbolt exhaust, tranny, and drive shaft. Then we just let it flip back over and pulled the engine with the boom pictured on the back of the tractor. By the way the car was trash, rust had eaten it alive. The t-tops were removed just in case the car rolled all the way over.
The yellow car is just another parts car...
P.S. I know this is very very redneck....

Haha yes very; whatever works though right? :) I've seen worse methods of removing an engine! It beats using a rope and a tree branch to hoist it out or something lol

I remember seeing a picture online of a pick-up truck jacked up like that so the guy could weld on the gas tank. Was that you or one of your relatives?

Yes the tractor was taught the entire time, those two by 4's were there to give the unluckly bastard caught under there a few more second to get the hell out of the way. Actually just for fun to see what they would have done we left them all there when sitting the car back down. The car pushed them into the soft ground then stopped, so we would have been safe if the tractor let loose. We had to pick the car back up to remove the holds then let it drop. It is a sad sad vehicle now...

I guess i should control what nature does to steel? Not my fault the P/O neglected this z, but im not going to go out of my way to be nice to a piece of crap while i strip it for parts. Its a parts car, not something that could have been restored. I would do this to ANY car in that condition.

We lifted an engine/tranny out of a 2001 Maxima using a stop sign that we yanked out of the ground on the corner of our block and a tow strap..
worked on the same principles as Zazu's pencil model photo.
whatever works...

thats AWESOME! american "ingenuity" at work!!
Ive done my fair shar of crap like that. I had an engine and a work bench set up in my very first apartment, with an L24. I've pulled motors out the bottom of cars, used scissor jacks to hold motors up while I take front crossmembers/steering rack.... lots of crap! I prefer not to think of it as being redneck, but more like being "resourceful!"
