Nissan reportedly has a solution for the midlife crisis set to strike the current 350Z sports car, launched three years ago: the 450Z.
The added hundred on the name plate would come courtesy of swapping the standard Z’s 3.5-liter V6 mill for Nissan’s corporate 4.5-liter V8 that powers several Infinitis in the U.S. market, such as the M45 and Q45 sedans and the FX45 SUV.
In Z guise, however, that unit could be tuned for upwards of 400hp, bringing the Z into Corvette and Porsche territory performance-wise.
So far the uber Z remains a rumor, but according to British magazine Autocar, Nissan “seriously considering” building it.

"Nissan will reportedly slot a new “Z” model above its popular 350 Z sports coupe. According to a French magazine, the “450 Z” is based on the structure and design of the 350 Z, but will feature a 430 horsepower 4.5 liter V8 and all-wheel-drive. Further details of the 450 Z remain sparse, and it’s unclear where this car will fit into Nissan’s portfolio when the GT-R reaches production. The report indicated that the 450 Z will be aimed at the Porsche 911 Carerra a Maserati 4.2."

The article posted by 85zx above said it was supposed to arrive in 2005, which obviously never happened. Since then this article has popped up several times only to be thrown aside as old news and something that never happened. However this new article posted by splitZ is recent so perhaps Nissan does plan to do a 450z. I honestly hope not as a V8 Z is a no no in my opinion. I guess we'll see.

"But while the GT-R concept that appeared in 2001 is a good indication of how the new GT-R may look, some rumours suggest that the car will be more akin the 2004 model Nissan Skyline/Infiniti G35 sports coupe."
Eww, I dont like the G35 at all so if that's true then I think the skyline's reign could be over. Personal preference I guess, but I dont think you can compare the earlier skylines aggressive looks to the new G35. If that's the path they decide to take I dont think the new Skyline will be any good to look at.

350Z doesn't need 30% more displacement so much as it needs 30% less weight!

.....100% better suspension.
The 350Z is a joke until they correct this, it really doesn't matter what motor is in it......

85zx,
It's probably because Nissan is owned by Renault, which is a French company. Makes sense.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!
A:

Why a V-8, why all wheel drive, and why so heavy you ask… Because they obviously care only about the numbers they can put on paper... its not like they actually care about how the car performs.
A:

Well at 430 HP I think the car will preform pretty good!

2002 Z28 LS1 T56 yes its fast no you cant drive it!

At most road courses, even some pretty fast ones, light weight will beat a heavier more powerful car with the same power/weight ratio.
Plus light weight is more fun, cheaper, and gets better fuel economy!
The motorcycle crowd is WAY more savvy than the performance street car crowd. They know that light weight is critical to maximize performance. Car guys seem to only look at the horsepower numbers...
I'd MUCH rather have a modern Z that weighed 2500 lb. and had 250hp than this 430hp sure-to-be-over-3400 lb. 450Z or GTR or whatever it is.
Your love for your Camaro may be on the decline after you get yer Z! Driving my buddy's '02 Z28 at New Hampshire Int'l Speedway earlier this year pretty much convinced me that I NEVER want to build a track car out of one! Currently trying to sell my '95 Z28 convertible to fund a 240SX project. Anybody interested?!
A:

Well ya your right I mean look at the Evo im sure if the Evo was heaver it couldent move like it does, but on the other hand i am sure this Z will preform a lot better then the 350 Z.

Norm...
Heh heh
If you're talkin about me, mine is a 5.6L, but anyway... <grin>
If it comes with the ability to delete some of the BS it "could" potentially be an awesome car and hit the 2800-2900 pound mark... With 430 hp at 2850 pounds I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I liked the styling.
It CAN be done! The VK45DE is a fairly light motor (all aluminum) and a torquey NA V8 would be a rip to drive in the right car... The VK motor can rev to 7100 with no problem so a nice WIDE/FLAT power band would be interesting.
Give me a track model that has racing seats (lightweight) save 60 pounds right there, delete the power windows (save another 40 pounds), replace the intake with one made of composite materials (10 pounds), get rid of the fancy stereo and put in something "adequate" save another 30 pounds, put on some nice light weight rims and save 35 pounds of UNSPRUNG weight, there's 150 pounds of wiring in the car for goodness sake... eliminate some of that "stuff"... I could go on and on... it CAN be done!!!

the next Z car should just be a remake of the 240z called the: 2007 240z but make it turbo charged : )

Ken,
as the resident doom&gloomer, I hafta say there's no fricking way to make the FM platform truly lightweight by simply throwing a few bells/whistles out and a couple of lightweight components in. The 350Z weighs ~3300 lb. Count on a 4.5 liter version (be it a 450Z or GTR variant) with way more power weighing at LEAST 100 lb. more, probably 200+ more.
It's much better/cheaper/easier to design lightweight into a car than to try to "add it on" after the fact. I think we'd have a much better chance of getting a lightweight sports car from Nissan if they'd make a new smaller/cheaper/lighterweight rwd platform than to continue giving us so-called performance cars built on a luxury sedan/SUV platforms.
I see a world in which Nissan builds a rwd family including a new 510 (2-door, 4-door, wagon), Silvia/SX, and Z all on a 2400 - 2800 lb. platform. Unfortunately this world is in an alternate universe where the majority of drivers prefer cars that are actually FUN to drive over oversized-to-the-point-of-absurdity tanks and ego-booster-mega-hp-numbers-generators for yahoos who must feel they have something to compensate for.
Ah well...
