he bought a b12 sentra ,at least I got him convinced to get a nissan, I amost succeded hiim in getting a 280Z, but he wanted a car NOW. Which is understandable that his mitsubishi mirage was totaled by my uncle (the car had 215K miles). So he gets it and drives up for me to check it out. The car had a missing sway bar and boy did it swayed on a highway. Had no balls -- the compression check revealed that it had 90 psi on the front and back cylinder (the gauge was too short to measure the mid two cylinders). And there was a back pressure from the valve cover. Yet somehow the P.O. provided a smog paper that it passed with flying colors. In my opinion my dad overpaid for this car
So we are thinking SR20 swap -- how legal is it and what do you need to at the referee station. (California car).

You're in Cali and you want to drop an Sr20 in and it be legal? Yea, good luck with that buddy...
You'd need to drop in a USDM engine that is at least the same year if not newer than the Sentra in order for it to be legal in Cali (at least thats my understanding of it)

and some one is forgetting that SR20DE (not the T) motor was found in the NX2000, Sentra SE-R, Infinity G-20 in the 90s in CALIFORNIA
SO it is a street motor and we only want 140 HP
140HP on a 2200 lb car is impressive (can rival a stock 240Z)

Sorry, so used to 240sx people talking about the SR20 that the DET is the only one that comes to mind. Wel hey, as long as its the same year or newer you should be fine =)

As long as the engine is from the same model year or newer, and not from a stolen car, you should be fine. I believe you'll need to take it to a referee smog station to have it checked out. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

You can also fit a GA16De into it.If it's a 5 speed,then you don't have to swap the tranny.

Do a SR20DE swap! I know around here I find NX2000's and SE-R's in junkyards quite a bit. I love my 200sx SE-R for a daily drive. Has some balls for a stock 4 cylinder! Great on gas compared to the 300zx too
